A Comfy Chair and a Book Review

My favorite reading chair is actually meant for the patio but I brought it inside this past winter to protect it from the weather. I missed it too much though and brought it back in the office last night. Fern was very excited. She doesn't know it's a chair...it's just a big play thing to her. When she was a kitten she would race up and down and around it, while I read a book. After she got tired she would curl up on the ottomon and go to sleep.

I just read one of the most wonderful books written. "With a Merry Heart" by Janet Gillespie. I found it at my library a couple of weeks ago. I read it slowly because I didn't want it to end! It is a charming read about a gentler time in American life. It is the memoirs of Gillespie's New England girlhood with her minister father, mother and younger siblings. A childhood of horse and carriage, fruit cellars, playhouses, secret garden places, the circle of the seasons and all their beauty, the wonder of new babies, the love of familes, the indespensable medicine of laughter and Cape Cod summers. Every June the family heads for The Point, the rallying place where nothing ever changes.

One of my favorite quotes was something her Father said, "You make a house a home by coming back to it again and again."

Emily Kimbrough says, "You must first read in private "With a Merry Heart" because your laughter cannot be supressed. Then you must read aloud your favorite bits, or all of it, to family, friends, or passerby. Such a joyous experience must be shared."

I completely agree! I laughed so much while reading it, Grace had me read out loud several times just so she could find out what was so funny! See if your library has it. Not to be corny but, it really will give you "A Merry Heart." :0)

Sounds good to me...I'll see if i can find it at the library. You should read The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls.
