It may be appropriate to serve yourself first since the hostess wouldn't presume upon you to have to wait until last. The spoon, if used would be passed in the preserves and if not used would be handed in such a way that only the handle is touched by both the passer and the receiver. <BR/>And as Rowan has said, the preserves would only be put at the edge of your plate directly from the bowl. Same with butter.Melissa E.https://www.blogger.com/profile/06896466111167169266noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21558651.post-73949986232016634552007-08-29T09:06:00.000-05:002007-08-29T09:06:00.000-05:00You know what.....I think I might have that book. ...You know what.....I think I might have that book. ...I will have to go look now. ;)LadySnowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15957860740001351456noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21558651.post-21153105639034755322007-08-29T07:53:00.000-05:002007-08-29T07:53:00.000-05:00How fun, Kelli! How fun, Kelli!Christinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01116480895620416647noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21558651.post-16087926517040969242007-08-29T07:49:00.000-05:002007-08-29T07:49:00.000-05:00Who knew? Each person spoons the amount of preserve they require onto their side plate rather than putting it directly onto the toast or roll or whatever. The spoon remains with the preserve dish as it is passed round. I wondered about the dorection to pass in - I know that port is always passed to the left after dinner but it seems more natural to me to pass to the right. I think it's to do with passing thigs clockwise rather than anti-clockwise.Rowanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13679130612798888266noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21558651.post-91313756908919334452007-08-28T22:29:00.000-05:002007-08-28T22:29:00.000-05:00I've enjoyed this post, Kelli!
