Life in our time is in many ways so easy, but taking a look back at history really does help to put things in perspective.
I'm inspired by your family's experiment - I told our children and they were all set to start today! We'll have to do a bit more planning then that!Heather Annehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13563913535839786305noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21558651.post-1159809660349767142006-10-02T12:21:00.000-05:002006-10-02T12:21:00.000-05:00What a great job y'all did, Kelli!! The girls look so darn cute!!Reviekathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01203343453017374395noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21558651.post-1159762013626522082006-10-01T23:06:00.000-05:002006-10-01T23:06:00.000-05:00Oh man that was way too early to be up and ready.....Oh man that was way too early to be up and ready....Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18358218337815343823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21558651.post-1159760177992416322006-10-01T22:36:00.000-05:002006-10-01T22:36:00.000-05:00It sounds like it all went well but now you know h...It sounds like it all went well but now you know how hard the lives were for the pioneers...women never stopped from the time they got up to the time they went to bed. I think it's wonderful that you and your family were even willing to try this...what an awesome experience for your kids!! Nothing is simple in that life. It was almost painful for me when doing this to remember just how hard we all worked when our life was much like that. I couldn't go back to that life again, but I do love the things we have maintained, like wood heat, our chickens, soap making, and the choice of lamplight when we want it.

So glad you were willing to do this big adventure !Pattyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08505042214124811641noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21558651.post-1159740650968922132006-10-01T17:10:00.000-05:002006-10-01T17:10:00.000-05:00What a great post! Women back then didn't know anything other than doing everything by hand. We, on the other hand, know what life is like with electricity, microwaves and that wonderful dishwasher :)Amyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08691765466320690473noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21558651.post-1159739939375234562006-10-01T16:58:00.000-05:002006-10-01T16:58:00.000-05:00This was so interesting. Both their children were born at home with a midwife. They had no electricity, no running water, and lived as people did back in the 1800's....and they did it because they wanted to!! I admired their tenacity and their courage. It was fun to visit but after a few days I was always ready for the comforts of home.Janethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10084823218319628822noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21558651.post-1159738906584153102006-10-01T16:41:00.000-05:002006-10-01T16:41:00.000-05:00I'm quite sure that life on a prairie homestead mu...I'm quite sure that life on a prairie homestead must have been extremely hard for everyone, it's a good lesson for your children to learn. You sound as though you did well even if lunch was a bit late, you have to remember that the women who lived this life in reality had lived that way all their lives and grew up knowing how long things took to prepare and cook and so on. I'm looking forward to reading more about your two days.Rowanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13679130612798888266noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21558651.post-1159737704280033382006-10-01T16:21:00.000-05:002006-10-01T16:21:00.000-05:00Oh, I've been waiting all weekend to see how this ...Oh, I've been waiting all weekend to see how this turned out and I think you can count this a successful adventure! I honestly am POSITIVE that my kids and I would have not even made it through a day - LOL! I'm looking forward to Part II and more pictures.

KrisAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
