A Bit of This and That
We finally got some rain in the Dallas area today. Actually, it was more like a few sprinkles but I'll take it! I am trying to enjoy this last month of summer, but I'll be honest and tell you I can't wait for the fall! I 'm already thinking about decorating and baking. Mmmm...pumpkin. :0)
We have been getting back to our schoolwork. We have been trying to finish Understood Betsy by Dorothy Canfield Fisher and When We Were Very Young by A. A. Milne for over a week now and Grace and Emily beg me not to finish the last chapter. They get so sad when a good book is over!! There were lots of tears at the end of Charlotte's Web and I have to admit to tearing up a bit at the end of Winnie-the-Pooh. It reminds me of the part in Anne of Avonlea, where Anne is teaching her English class and the Principal and Miss Stacy walk into a room full of crying girls. Please tell me I'm not the only one with this problem!! :0)
Lets see, what else was I going to tell you. Oh, we are having a small birthday party here tomorrow night for a good friend of Phillip's and I'm making a chocolate cake. If you have been craving chocolate, I plan on posting the recipe and a picture or two! :0)
Lastly, I want to say thank you so much for coming to visit me and leaving me sweet comments. I enjoy visiting your blogs as well and am learning lots of new things, as well as making some wonderful friends.
I'm going to leave you with one of my favorite summertime poems that seems appropriate for today.
From Rain In Summer
How beautiful is the rain!
After the dust and heat,
In the broad and fiery street,
In the narrow lane,
How beautiful is the rain!
How is clatters along the roofs,
Like the tramp of hoofs!
How it gushes and struggles out
From the throat of the overflowing spout!
Across the window-pane
It pours and pours;
And swift and wide,
With a muddy tide,
Like a river down the gutter roars
The rain, the welcome rain!
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Kelli, you are such a good blogger. Beautiful pictures and a beautiful poem. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteLove your photos, but then I've told you this so many times LOL
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the chocolate cake recipe :)
I too love a good book. When you have a good series, it is even harder to say goodbye. You want to know what happened to this one or that one. I cry a lot in books.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I am always good for a tidbit here or there when someone is talking about different things. My husband wonders how I know these things. It is usually because it was in a book I read. =) I remember reading about baklava in a Bobbsey Twins book when I was a child. After I married, someone asked us if we like baklava. My husband had no idea what they were talking about. I told him it was a greek dessert. He was impressed. =)
I'm in complete agreement with you on being ready for Fall!!! Great post!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad I am not alone in crying when you know a book is about to end. I remember a few years ago we (me, my Mom, and sisters) found out our very favorite mystery writer had passed away. She wrote such a wonderful series and we were so sad because we knew there would be no more. (That's sounds terrible but you know what I mean.) BTW, you have some of the best posts and pictures in Blogland. I truly enjoy each one:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful post. Loved the Longfellow poem.
ReplyDeleteThese photos are beautiful, and they're the first ones in a while that I didn't take. Excellent, excellent work, Kelli!
