We have been enjoying these quiet days after Christmas. Sleeping in late, watching movies, playing with new toys, eating fudge for breakfast...I mean wholesome bowls of oatmeal. ;0)
I managed to clean the kitchen yesterday and even do a little laundry.
Today, I'm hoping to get the other rooms cleaned and vacuumed, along with doing the rest of the laundry. It is nice to start the New Year with clean clothes to wear!
Grace got Monopoly for Christmas and I have had lots of fun teaching her how to play. I have great memories of playing Monopoly with my cousins. Our games would last for *days!*
Monopoly is one of those games you either love or *really* don't like! I heard a few interesting conversations while shopping for games this month. "Don't even think about buying Monopoly. That is the worst game ever!" How do you feel about Monopoly?
I love it! It's one of the few games I can win when playing my husband. He, however, is not as fond of it! Of course, I am the daughter of a "greedy developer". (My Dad is a builder and jokingly referes to himself as a greedy developer-even though he has often tried to build affordable housing.)
ReplyDeleteMonopoly is one of the worst games ever created, at least if more than two people are playing. Let's say four people start, and then two people are eliminated while the game continues. How long those two eliminated players must find something else to do is exactly how bad a game is Monopoly.
ReplyDeleteA good board game is fun for all players from beginning to end.
Monopoly also relies a bit heavily on the roll of the dice, but that's not a killer like elimination is.
Tell us how you really feel, Phillip. ;0P
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I think I liked it as a child but hate it as an adult. My son, neices and nephews all loved it when they were young. Fortunately their aunt loves it too and she would invite them all over to spend an afternoon playing it at her house.
ReplyDeleteWe've been having a nice relaxed week at our house too. Isnt it nice?
My daugther, Dani, bought my 13 year old son Monopoly for Christmas. He and the seven year old are playing right now! Not my favorite game, but I've been known to place once in awhile.
ReplyDeleteLike you, we're enjoying the post-Christmas quiet and have been having leisurely days. It's time for me to get crackin' again, though.
Monopoly is OK, depending on my mood. I guess it just seems to take so long to play that I have to be in right frame of mind. Personally I like the game CLUE, we play that quite a bit.
ReplyDeleteI love Monopoly, but Trivial Pursuit is really more of my thing, I love to put my knowledge of things to the test.
ReplyDeleteYour Christmas seemed wonderful, I loved all your pictures. What sweet children you have to be proud of. Thanks for letting us get a little glimpse of it, that cake recipe looks delicious too!
My husband, son and I used to play. I would always beat them and then felt bad about it. So, I won't play with them anymore. I always ended up feeling ilke a dog. =)
ReplyDeleteI hate it, hate it, hate it (do you get the picture).
ReplyDeleteI am famous (infamous?) in my family for bringing a book to each game (so, of course, I never won because I didn't pay attention).
My husband doesn't like it much, either (even though his undergrad degree is in Economics) but he and my son absolutely loved Monopoly Junior. It went much faster.
Who couldn't love Monopoly! In fact, my hubby and I just got the Modern City version with Las Vegas and so forth, I don't know if I will like the change or not. lol
ReplyDeleteWe love board games even still. It's just a great way to have family time!
Good for you getting the laundry done and I'm with you on the fudge for breakfast thing! lol
I loved Monopoly! I played many games with my cousin when we were young. I'd still play if I had someone to play with.
ReplyDeleteFUDGE for Breakfast???? LOL
HEY KELLI!!!! I wish we could play a game....we could send Phillip to JAIL!!! DO NOT PASS GO!! LOL!! MISSED YA!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Monopoly. I'm always the iron.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up, one of my friends was also a Monopoly fiend. We had "house rules", and "friend rules"... the friend rules were quite elaborate, intricate, and involved... I can't wait until my kids are old enough to play!
We got Uno for Christmas this year... can't wait to teach them Canasta, another All Time Favorite game - one which endeared me to my MIL too!
Kimberly, as you can see my husband isn't fond of it either. :0)
ReplyDeleteClarice, buiding a fairy house sounds like lots of fun!
Mrs. Staggs, I'm glad you are having a nice relaxing week too!
Copperswife, I plan on getting things crackin' here too, come Tuesday. :0)
Randi, I LOVE Clue!!
Sophia, I'm not smart enough to play Trivial Pursuit..LOL
Marci, I know the feeling. I beat Grace the other day but tried really hard not too! She took is really well though and set the board up for another game. :0)
Brenda, Junior monopoly is really fun and *much* faster!
Pamela, "Who couldn't love Monopoly!" My thoughts exactly! ;0)
Dot, come visit me and I'll play with you. :0)
Tina, that is hilarious! I like the way you think! ;0) Miss you too!!
Milehimama, I'm always the scottie dog. :0) Your "house rules" vs. "friends rules" sound fun! My cousins and I had the rule that if the game went longer than 3 days you could take money from the bank as long as you didn't get caught. We were awful! LOL
I Love Monopoly it is one of my favorite games. All of my children play the adult version of Monopoly and the ages are 12,7 and 6 and they are actually good. The little ones sometimes need help with the money but overall they get the concept and can count most of the bills. Great Game To Me!
ReplyDeleteHate it! I ALWAYS lose!
ReplyDeleteNow give me Scrabble or Boogle and I'll have at least a chance of whooping some butt!
LOL
Terri
I used to love to play Monopoly, but haven't played it in years. We've been playing many of the SceneIt games with the grandkids. Those are fun for everyone.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Kelli!
Glad to know I'm not the only one who ate fudge for breakfast!
ReplyDeleteHi Mrs. Monise, how fun that all your children like to play! We have certainly been brushing up on our math skills these last few days! :0)
ReplyDeleteLOL Terri! Grace and Phillip love scrabble too!
Happy New Year to you too, Susie!
Jenny, fudge goes very well with coffee. ;0)
Kelli
We got Pipsqueak the Sponge Bob version of Monopoly for Christmas... We've not played it yet! Waiting....
ReplyDelete(aka Mama Heffalump)
I love playing that game!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a wonderful holiday! :)
I love the game! We always said, "The banker always wins!" Hmmm, wonder why?!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, part of the fun playing it was learning how and when to cheat. . . bad me!
Now that I speak of cheating, I was also going to say that the first childhood Bible my parents gave me looked exactly like the one on the table shown in the pic. . . still have it and read it sometimes!
Hmmm...I don't care for Monopoly. It just seems to drag on and on, AND my husband wins every time we play it. LOL

ReplyDeleteKelli, while I am not a fan of this board game, my oldest daughter is. The only time I enjoy playing the game, is with my daughter and her roommate. My daughter seems to have good luck when playing the game, as she always seems to win every time we play. As a matter of fact Kelli, one of my daughter's hobbie's is... collecting Monopoly Board Games. I like all the new ones that come out every year. One year for Christmas, my daughter had given the roommate an "I love Lucy" Monopoly Board Game. How cute that was, and what fun it was to play the game.
