Camping Adventures

Van
This past Friday, we left for our very first family camping trip!

Supplies
Do you think we took enough stuff?!

Campsite
The weather was beautiful and our campsite was tucked away in a little wooded area.

Tent
Putting up the tent.

Tent
Grace and Emily shared a bed on the left side.

Benjamin
Benjamin was on the left and Phillip and I were in the middle of the tent. Does it count as real camping if you use air mattresses? ;0)

Fire
Starting a fire.

Campsite
Once the fire was going, our "Home Sweet Home Campsite" was all set up!

Trail
This was our view from behind our tent. There were plenty of birds to see and hear, including a Whip-Poor-Will that kept me awake most of the first night.

Grace
We also brought along two hammocks that were nice to relax in.

Fishing
Off to go fishing...

Benjamin
Benjamin waiting for the big one.

Grace
We gave up after awhile, but it was still fun.

Lunch
In addition to relaxing and fishing, there was plenty of time for eating yummy campfire food.

Breakfast
This was our breakfast the first morning: sausage, eggs and pancakes.

Benjamin
Benjamin enjoying pancakes before a cub scout meeting.

Emily
Emily was the best "biscuit on a stick" maker.

Fire
And of course we had s'mores in the evenings. Thank you for looking at a few picture highlights from our trip, we can't wait to go again in the fall!

It looks like so much fun! I think air mattresses are the only way to go!! Especially if I want to be able to walk the next day! =0)
This was certainly a perfect camping weekend.

great pictures! glad you had such a wonderful weather, looks like it was a lot of fun there in the wild! can't wait to start our camping trips too, but it's still a bit too cold here in the west coast to sleep in a tent, so we will probably wait a few more weeks, but then once we start, we'll be camping as often as possible throughout the summer :)

Ah, this brings back memories! It's been ages since we went, but I have fond memories, especially of the camp fire at night. My husband not only cooked the campfire meals but usually shopped for them, too, so that was a treat for me.

Oh, what fun!! We were several times a year campers before moving to the country. We love it. I'm glad your family had such a good time.

  6. Aww, that looks like so much fun! We have never really been camping as a family, but hopefully soon.

I imagine you guys had some great family time and you're still closer because of it.

    Thanks for sharing!

  7. Wow! I love the way that car boot is packed. Did it look like that on the way home too? Somehow after everything has been opened and used, it's hard to get the luggage to fit again. Warm wishes Eleanor at Thatchwick

  9. WOW! What a fun weekend! We used to go camping all of the time, and then the kids got bigger. It's very difficult to fit everything you need in a minivan. Didn't you think?

  12. Camping would be fun if you didn't have to pack and unpack all that "necessary" stuff. lol
Looks like it was a fun family time. The kids will remember it forever.

What a great outing! And your pictures are wonderful. We were never campers. I still love to be outside more than anything, but prefer to sleep in a bed with a potty right next to me that flushes :)

    have a great week

  14. Great pictures! And looks like you all had a good time! My family is going "camping" in September - we rented a cabin, though! LOL When my siblings and I were little, we went tent camping a lot; over the past several years, we've used a camper; now we're graduating to the cabin. The camper is a lot of work and my mom brings everything but the kitchen sink! She will probably still bring alot even with the cabin!

It always amazes me how much stuff we take camping for the four of us! When it is just myself and my husband we get by with so much less, but without the kids it is not nearly as fun.

  16. Kelli,

I've only been camping a few times but I loved it. The fresh air and the beauty of our surroundings was wonderful. It looks like you bought just enough to go camping. Thank you for sharing your pictures. Everyone looks like they are loving it there!

Looks like such fun and your children will remember this fun family time for years to come!
Just the other day my daughter and I were remembering a fun camping trip we had taken more than 30 years ago!

  20. Hi Kelli:-) Oh wow, this post brings back so many memories for me. After my dad sold our little cottage when I was about 10 years old, he bought a tent trailer and we then went camping all over the place every summer. Our camping sites looked exactly like that shown in your pictures...how I use to love camping:-) Doesn't the food taste that much better also cooked over an open fire? Yummmm! Why do you have to wait until Fall to go back camping??? By the way, glad you were able to fit everything in the van...barely!!! lol xoxo

  21. Oh, this looks like so much fun!! I think this year we're ready to start the family camping tradition, too. And I'm sure I'll be packing just as much--if not more--stuff for the trip:)

You got to go camping, so lucky. I think that camping is not on the agenda here yet for another month or two. Much too cold!!!

Loved the pictures. Smores and an open fire two of my favorite camping memories.

    God bless.

What a fantastic fun time you had! The place is just beautiful - it reminds me of the camp sites here in the mountains. There is still too much snow here for camping. I want to go SO bad!!! Anyway, I loved looking at your photos! Have a great night friend!

  28. Looks like Pack Family Camping to me. And it looks like you had a great time. Our John, now 21 and an Eagle Scout, still loves to camp and fish and do all that sort of thing. His first camping trip was at age 3 months at Perdenales Falls State Park. Where did you all go? The boys always enjoyed going to Anahauc east of Houston, too, to see the alligators. Great park...no camping. We always camped at Martin Dies when we went there on Spring Breaks.

  29. Isn't it so much fun to be outside all the time? I love that. I love eating outside.

It looks like you had a great trip - and I won't tease you about the air mattress..I think I soon have T talked in to buying one - old age is setting in - HA!

We go in summer with our church. It is so much fun for the kids (and us). I would like to start doing weekends with just the 5 of us, but I think we'll wait a few more years til the kids are a little older. I actually am not looking forward to it this year with a toddler and naps!

  34. Your camping trip looks like it was a blast! Funny thing...both my husband & I went camping every summer with our families - but we've never taken our kids, ever! (I must admit I have no desire to, either! LOL) Anyway, I'm glad you guys had a good time :)

  39. Is it considered real camping when you have an RV? Oh well, I enjoy my RV, and I'm sure we take way more for our smaller family when we travel.

Looks like wonderful weather! We still have not taken another trip because snow is still falling in the mountains (and around town, although it's not sticking here). Is there a reason you aren't going again this summer? We try to go at least once a month. I enjoy getting the kids (us big ones included) out in nature and away from all the things that overwhelm us at home.

  42. Kelli, You amaze me. You are so orderly and with it. This camping trip must have been so much fun for you all. It just looks so great. It makes me want to camp again. We have not done it in awhile. I am going to get some of those big plastic containers and some air matresses first. Thos Mother's Day flower pots are so cute.

Have a pleasant evening. Thanks for stopping by and wishing me well, Kathi
