Over the river and through the woods
Trot fast my dapple gray.
Spring over the ground
Like a hunting hound
On this Thanksgiving Day, Hey!
Over the river and through the woods
Now Grandmother's face I spy.
Hurrah for the fun,
Is the pudding done?
Hurrah for the pumpkin pie.
-English folksong, It's Raining, It's Pouring
I love this song, especially the version on The Chipmunks Christmas album (the original one:).
ReplyDeleteThanks for this memory. I used to sing it to my kids each Thanksgiving as we drove to Mother's house.

I love that song or poem. I do remember it and it reminds me of hopping and skipping.:) Take care
ReplyDeleteOh, you just brought me back to first grade (very long time ago)...Mrs. O'Brian tought us all this song. We practiced for weeks and weeks and then sang it at assembly...I had a brown plaid dress on with a crinoline slip underneath...the dress had a red apple on the pocket and a red bow under the peter pan collar...wow...thanks for the memory!
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard this version before, just the Christmas one. But I like it and it is very much the same, but yet a little different. Thanks for sharing. "Over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house be go..."
