Thanksgiving has been over
at least a week or two,
but we're still all eating turkey,
turkey salad, turkey stew,
turkey puffs and turkey pudding,
turkey patties, turkey pies,
turkey bisque and turkey burgers,
turkey fritters, turkey fries.
For lunch our mother made us
turkey slices on a stick,
there'll be turkey tarts for supper,
all this turkey makes me sick.
For tomorrow she's preparing
turkey dumplings stuffed with peas,
oh I never thought I'd say this--
"Mother! No more turkey...PLEASE!"
-Jack Prelutsky, It's Thanksgiving, 1982
Last week we worked our way through the Thanksgiving leftovers. We had plenty of creamed peas and Phillip's mom used them as the base for a delicious turkey shepherd's pie.
And a turkey pot pie.
I made a big pot of turkey soup with dumplings and there's enough broth in the freezer for another pot of stew, but for now we are taking a break. :0)
All the pumpkin pie is long gone, but my sister, Amy opened an Etsy shop and sent me a box of Espresso Chocolate Chip Shortbread and Espresso Caramel Candies.
Be sure to stop by and drool over all her goodies!
We've had a very quiet weekend at home. Daisy is recovering from getting spayed and I've been doing some online Christmas shopping.
We have all of our decorations up, so I'll be sharing pictures this coming week!

Hi Kelli,
We're finishing up the last of our (frozen) turkey leftovers today with a big pot of turkey rice soup and sandwiches.
I'll head over and take a look-see at your sister's shop. Those look yummy.
Have a great week.
Brenda :)
All I can say is, he must have had a very large turkey to have all of those turkey dishes from the leftovers. Seriously, tho, your turkey soup with dumplings look delicious.
As we don't have Thanksgiving here, I really look forward to my turkey on Christmas Day.
Looking forward to seeing your decorations. I have blogged about some more of mine on my blog.
LOL Love the poem! I made dumplings and turkey pot pie too along with other turkey-related dishes. My family is quite tired of turkey, so I'm going to take a break from it. I've got some frozen for soup, etc., and I also have a whole turkey waiting to be cooked. Think I'll wait awhile, though. Eating the leftover turkey always makes me think of the part in Caddie Woodlawn in which her mother refuses to sell her turkeys at the unusually low going rate, and initially the children are excited about all the turkey they are going to get. Then after awhile, they are complaining and trading their turkey sandwiches at school for other kids' lunches. LOL

I wish we still had some turkey leftovers. The turkey and dumpling is making my mouth water. I love it.
Now you know why we Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving in October....by Christmas we're hungry for turkey while you guys are sick of it!!! lol There, mystery solved as to why we celebrate it on different dates! hehe Everything you make always looks so yummy, I absolutely love pot pie!! xoxo
Well, I gave the still leftover turkey to the cats last week. Now I wish I had made dumplings...yours look so great..I love dumplings but I've never had much luck making them. I am however simmering some very fragrent potpourri, I just posted the recipe on my blog. I though about starting an etsy shop to sell my crochet and scrapbook thingys...just never got around to it. Does anyone have much sales activity with theirs? Just curious...Penny
Hi Kelli,
I hope Daisy will be feeling better soon. They are always a bit off after they've been to the vet.
Those dishes look so delicious. Your sister's goodies look great too, I will have a look right away ; )
Have a wonderful Sunday !!
Your turkey potpies look delicious! How do you get your crusts so perfect? I make good, flaky crusts, but mine are never quite perfect looking.
I added your sister's shop to my favorites. My daughter is interested in selling baked goods through Etsy too, so she will be thrilled to see your sister's shop. Those shortbread cookies look fantastic!
Kelli, everything loods so good. Hope Daisy feels better.Have a great week.
LOL! No one was happy to see the turkey soup I made this weekend! I guess I should have waited a bit:)
Your soup and dumplings looks just delicious! I can't wait to see your Christmas Decorations!
Manuela
This has been a long weekend here too! Looking forward to seeing your Christmas things!!! Hugs to Daisey~~
Dear Daisy, My name is Ginger. My mommy's name is Debbi. My mom told me that you had to have a little surgery. I am sorry about that and I hope you are feeling back to normal soon. I got spayed about six years ago and I have forgotten about it already! Just take it easy for a few days. :-)
Lots of licks! Ginger
Hi Kelli...
you guys must get pretty tired of turkey since Thanksgiving and Christmas are so close together in the US! Am I remembering right that you're from Canada? Was this a bit of a hard change for you? I love other cultures and their traditions so I'm not sure what I'd think of it. :) One thing I like is the definite step into the Christmas season the day after Thanksgiving.
Your sister's goodies look deeelish!
YUMMY!!!
The turkey soup with dumplings.............YUMMY!!!! Thanks for sharing.
I am sad that I don't have any turkey. We were out of town, but I have a 20 lb frozen one in the freezer that I will pull out some time soon. And when I do, I'll make sure and pull out the poem you listed....too funny.
Yum! The turkey dumpling soup looked absolutely yummy! Like you we are also taking a big break from turkey.
I will definitely take a peek at your sisters Etsy site! The treats looked very very delicious!
What a cute poem!
We got a smaller turkey because it was free from the grocery store, but it ended up being just right -- enough for a few turkey sandwiches and nuked leftovers Thanksgiving weekend, and a big pot of turkey bone soup, but that was it.
I love dumplings but have only attempted them once.
That shortbread looks wonderful!
Yummy shortbread, there.
Mama Bear
That shortbread looks divine! The dumplings and shephard's pie sound wonderful. We had a smoked turkey, so I didn't try any of the turkey leftovers like I usually do. This gives me some great ideas for after Christmas though!
Oh all that food looks so wonderful! That is so great your sister opened her store too. I visited it and gained 5 lbs. :) I have this great recipe for homemade chicken noodle soup with these great big fat noodles. I'll be making it soon (turkey noodle soup) so hopefully things will turn out right and I will post it. :)
The turkey soup looks so good. My turkey left with my bigger babies, so no soup for me.

That chocolate chip shortbread looks delicious!

Kathi :)
The potpie and soup look so good that I want to go out and buy a turkey! Please say you will be posting the recipes:)
I enjoy your blog, especially the cardmaking ideas. I'm not very creative, but your layouts really help!
Everything looks delish!
