Cherry Pie
Two cherry pies to enjoy with company this evening. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend, as well!
Cherry Pie
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. almond extract
2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
2 (14.5 oz.) cans of red tart cherries, NOT cherry pie filling (look for pitted cherries, packed in water)
Pastry for double pie crust
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In saucepan, combine sugar, flour, cinnamon and undrained cherries. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens and boils (about 7 minutes). Remove from heat and stir in almond extract.
Pour mixture into a 9-inch unpacked pie shell. Dot with butter. Cover with top crust and seal edges and crimp. If a lattice crust is not used, put one or several vents in the crust. Bake at 400F for 30-35 minutes or until crust is brown.

Monday, February 22, 10
Good morning! I wasn't feeling well over the weekend (chills and sore throat), so I was very happy to wake up and not have to take more Dayquil. I have a few things to catch up on and I need to clean the kitchen because someone is coming to fix my oven, which stopped working last week.
It is supposed to snow all day tomorrow, so I need to pick up some milk and bread. Speaking of snow, Emily painted this beautiful picture for me. Isn't it a cozy little cottage?
I hope you have a great start to your week!

Chocolate Dipped Marshmallows
I had planned on making Tracy's Chocolate Dipped Marshmallows for Valentine's Day, but since Emily wasn't feeling well I decided to wait.
Last night the girls and Benjamin had a couple of friends over to watch a movie, so while they were eating popcorn, I quickly made a plateful for a surprise. They are really rich, but so delicious!

Week in Review
Hello! I've been gone a week, but it feels longer. We've been so busy with a birthday, two snow days, a tea party, and Valentine's day. Emily started feeling sick Thursday evening and missed all the fun. After a trip to the doctor and a round of antibiotics she is finally feeling better. Here are a few scenes from this past week...
My handsome boy turned 9!
He requested a Dirt Cake (pudding and crushed oreos) and he decorated the top with cookies and gummy worms.
Lots of gummy worms!
His neighborhood friends came over to celebrate, eat hamburgers, and play in the snow.
On Saturday, Grace and I went to a Mother and Daughter Tea.
A Valentine breakfast.
Goody bags for our Faith Keeper's Paris themed Valentine party.
So, that is what we've been up to. I'm looking forward to a more healthy upcoming week!

Snow Day!
Benjamin's birthday is tomorrow and he got an early present. More snow than at Christmas!
It's still coming down strong.
The girls and Benjamin are building a snowman and I just heard their neighbor friends arrive. All the schools have canceled for the day.
Someone else loves the snow, too.
I'm off to make hot chocolate!

Birthday Flowers
Grace's birthday flowers have blossomed and are cheering up the dining room.
It's cold outside and today, I'm enjoying a "Stay at Home" day. I've got my fuzzy socks on and an easy spaghetti dinner is on the menu. I hope your week is going well!
Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.

Happy Birthday Grace!
Today is Grace's 12th birthday! We had a family party for her on Saturday evening and today we went out for lunch and then I took her shopping for clothes, which is what she wanted instead of surprise presents.
She also wanted to make her own cake, which she did using pink and brown fondant. It turned out so cute!
The first 12 years went by so fast, hopefully the next 12 will slow down a bit!
