Show and Tell Friday!
Welcome to “Show and Tell Friday!” Do you have something special to share with us? It could be a trinket from grade school, a piece of jewelry, or a treasured collection. Look around your home for something to share; dig through those boxes in your closet if you have to! Share photos and the story that goes with your special item.
Happy Friday! The girls and I like to collect aprons, so today I'm going to share some favorites...
Many of them are from the depression era and have been found at local antique shops.
I got this Christmas apron for Grace many years ago.
My Grandma made this child sized apron for my sister and I.
And finally, the latest apron to add our collection has a fun diner theme. My mom made it from vintage fabric for Emily's birthday.
Thank you for taking a look at our our aprons! I hope your week has gone well. We've spent a lot of time at the pool with swim lessons and playing with friends. The plans are the same for next week!
Remember, that your Show and Tell needs to be something from your home or garden. Please read the Show and Tell Guidelines for step-by-step instructions on how to participate.

ReplyDeleteGreat aprons! One of my favorites is one my grandma made for me when I was a girl. I still wear it from time to time. The other one I have is one from Pampered Chef that I got from one of my bridal showers a couple years ago. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed looking. :o)

I just love your apron collection! I love the little one your Mom made for you and your sister! How sweet Emily has a apron made by her Grandmother on her Birthday! What a wonderful Grandmother. My daughter,Suzette made an apron when at our Home School. She is so happy today to have her little apron. I wish I had kept more of my aprons! Too young to realize I should! Now I have saved TONS of other things! lol My Grandson, Gage is 4 he asked me yesterday, how did I get so many things! lol I have one apron from when I was 20, and a new one made by a friend, now if I would just wear them, I would quit ruining my clothes! My Mother and Grandmother had their aprons on all day, even at the garden with rags to tie up tomato in the pockets. I always loved to see what all was in my Grandmother's apron pocket! What a great apron show! I just love it!
ReplyDeleteKelli,

ReplyDeleteGrandma's Apron
by Tina Trivett
The strings were tied, It was freshly washed, and maybe even pressed.
For Grandma, it was everyday to choose one when she dressed.
The simple apron that it was, you would never think about;
the things she used it for, that made it look worn out.
She may have used it to hold, some wildflowers that she'd found.
Or to hide a crying child's face, when a stranger came around.
Imagine all the little tears that were wiped with just that cloth.
Or it became a potholder to serve some chicken broth.
She probably carried kindling to stoke the kitchen fire.
To hold a load of laundry, or to wipe the clothesline wire.
When canning all her vegetables, it was used to wipe her brow.
You never know, she might have used it to shoo flies from the cow.
She might have carried eggs in from the chicken coop outside.
Whatever chore she used it for, she did them all with pride.
When Grandma went to heaven, God said she now could rest.
I'm sure the apron that she chose, was her Sunday best.
Enjoy your day!
I am new to your blog - found it from Lori's. I love your aprons and I really enjoy reading all of your posts! I collect clothing and cookbooks (and other stuff) from the 1930s-1950s so I really appreciate your love of linens and aprons. Oh, and I'm in DFW as well so I can definitely appreciate your sentiments regarding our weather - I'm a "fall" girl, myself! Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello.
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous aprons, especially the embroidered one. I hope you had a good vacation.
ReplyDeleteI have had no broadband (except blips) for nearly 2 months now, but the line is finally being replaced on Monday. I have missed you all so much now Seasonal Delights is no more. Jennie xxx
Hi Kellie!!
ReplyDeleteThese are SO very pretty!!
What's funny, I was going to post on the exact same thing today- my apron collection- but changed my mind! LOL!!!
Hope y'all have a wonderful weekend!
His,
Mrs. U
So many thoughts come to my mind with your aprons today. I didn't think you would show and tell today since you would just be back from your vacation so what a nice surprise when I looked. I realized how many aprons I have and don't think about them. Also how many stains could we prevent on our clothes if we did. I loved the poem that Leann shared in her comment. I should be wearing an apron when I go out to the garden not expecting to do anything and then I start picking some cucumbers or beans and need a pocket. Nanna's comment that she didn't go to Grandma's kitchen without them was cute. When my children were little and I needed a quiet place to pray someone shared with me about the woman who knelt down at a chair and put her apron over her head. That was her closet prayer place. Thank you for hosting show and tell.
ReplyDeleteI just love aprons, and wear them during my days at home. My favorite was an antique cotton full coverage apron from the early 1900's. It buttoned in the back, and I wore it to death. I should have taken a pattern from it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting this.
Mary Lou
What lovely aprons, Kelli. I enjoy aprons too. :) I think cooking is more enjoyable while wearing an apron.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Gina
The second one really caught my eye! I'd love the see the entire thing so I can try to copy the design. ~Kelly in MN
