Thanksgiving Poem

Pie

When all the leaves are off the boughs,
And nuts and apples gathered in,
And cornstalks waiting for the cows,
And pumpkins safe in barn and bin,
Then Mother says, "My children dear,
The fields are brown, and autumn flies;
Thanksgiving Day is very near,
And we must make thanksgiving pies!

Giving Thanks ~ Wednesday

Giving Thanks

Welcome to the third day of our "Giving Thanks" celebration! We are taking this week (Monday-Thursday) to prepare our hearts and homes for this wonderful time of year. My Thanksgiving project, daily cleaning challenge and poem, are located directly below this post.

I would love for you to join in the fun! Mr. Linky is available for you to sign and here are some things you could share on your blog:

-What you are thankful for
-Thanksgiving traditions or memories
-Recipes
-Craft Ideas
-Decorating ideas
-Your menu
-Cleaning/Organizing "before" and "after" pictures
-Anything having to do with Thanksgiving!

Everyone who participates and signs Mr. Linky will be entered into a drawing at the end of the week! Go HERE to see the prizes. Each day you participate, your name will be entered into the giveaway drawing. If you participate two days, your name will be entered twice, join us all four days for four entries, etc.

Please read the participating instructions carefully:

1. Write a Thanksgiving post on your blog. Link back to There is No Place Like Home so that others know where to join in. You may use the "Giving Thanks" button located at the top of this post. Go HERE for the picture code.

2. When signing Mr. Linky, link directly to your "Giving Thanks" post and not your homepage URL. People will be looking through these links all week long. If you link to your main page, it will be harder to find your post. Go HERE for instructions on how to do this.

3. In order to make the Mr. Linky list easier to read, please type your first name only and a 1-2 word description. Example: Kelli-Recipe.

We are looking forward to what you have to share!

It looks like the Mr. Linky website is down right now. Hopefully it will be up soon, but in the meantime, please leave your link in the comments and I will add it later.

Fabric Leaves and Acorns ~ Giving Thanks

Fabric Leaves
I first heard about these fabric fall leaves from my friend, Clarice. She sent me one last year and it was so pretty. The girls and I made quite a few this past October, along with acorns. I think they make wonderful Thanksgiving gifts for a friend, hostess gifts or decorations.

Acorn

Acorns
Fat quarters and fabric scraps are perfect for this project.

Clarice has the instructions for the leaves, please visit her to make some of your own!

Templates
For the acorns I enlarged a template in my word processor and printed them out.

Acorns

Acorn
Add a little fabric glue to attach the top to the acorn.

Acorn
You could sew a small bead on the very top.

Acorn
Or glue a bit of ribbon to the back. If I had thought of it earlier, I would have tucked it between the fabric, while making the acorns.

Tag
I also made a tag and and tied it around the leaf stems.

Rearranging the Dining Room ~ Giving Thanks

Autumn stand
Phillip's mom has been staying at our house while she recovers from surgery. Yesterday, I was telling her how this portable island cart in front of my laundry room door makes me claustophobic.

Dining room
She had the great idea of moving it into the far corner of my dining room, where the tree is.

Kitchen
Much less cluttered now.

Dining Room

Tea corner
It makes the perfect tea cart! We moved the tree into my bedroom and hung a picture that I already had. Thank you for taking a look!
