~Farewell to Summer~

Summer

Good Morning! Labor Day weekend has arrived and it's time for the last big BBQ of the year. Oh, and no more wearing your white shoes either. ;0)

We are going to have a quiet weekend at home. Grace is knitting a doll scarf. Benjamin was sick yesterday, but is feeling all better. He is heading out to a Home Depot woodworking class with Daddy. Emily found a pair of ballet shoes at the resale store yesterday so she is busy dancing. :0) I will be doing a little baking and also sewing some pinafore aprons for the girls. Now, I didn't say sewing "successfully." I have already sewed both of the armholes completely shut! *Blush*

I may have had my first ever very own creative idea yesterday!! I'm thinking about having a "Farewell to Summer Tea" tonight. A vegetable quiche, cucumber sandwiches, spinach salad and strawberry shortcake for dessert! I will be sure to take photos, or rather have my photographer take photos. ;0)

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend with your family. I will be back on Tuesday with hopefully a new autumn look for my blog, some pictures of my fall decorations and a recipe for Apple and Caramel Muffins!

In the meantime, please enjoy this sweet little poem.

We made ourselves a castle
Once after school was out;
We raked the leaves together
To wall it all about.

We made a winding pathway
Down to the school-yard gate.
And there we worked with might and main
Until the day grew late;

Until one bright star twinkled
Above the maple tree,
And lights shone down on village street
As far as we could see.

We planned that every recess
We'd come out there to play,
But in the night it blew so hard
Our castle blew away.

    Summer just passed too quickly for me, as always. I had to smile about your "first-ever very own creative idea". It seems that there are so many creative people blogging. Coming up with something original feels wonderful, doesn't it? Your idea is lovely and will probably be adopted by others. Sewing the armholes shut, now that gave me a chuckle. If only ripping out stitches was as quick to do as sewing them!

  4. Every fall I have a pumpkin maple tea. Its so much fun, everything has to be pumpkin or maple. My sisters and Aunt ship me boxes of new england leaves and it makes me feel a bit homesick but at the same time I feel a bit connceted to them that way.
    Maybe this year my pumpkin maple tea will include beeswax candle dipping... are you and the children up for a trip to my house for that with Revee and the girls ???
