"Show and Tell Friday"

Welcome to Show and Tell Friday!" Do you have a something special to share with us? It could be a trinket from grade school, a piece of jewelry, an antique find. Your show and tell can be old or new. Use your imagination and dig through those old boxes in your closet if you have to! Feel free to share pictures and if there's a story behind your special something, that's even better!

This week I want to show you my record player and records. I bought the player a few years ago at a consignment store. I have many of the records I listened to when I was little and I wanted to introduce the girls and Benjamin to them! I keep the player and records in our entertainment center so it's easy to pull everything out.

Growing up, my very favorite singer was Evie. She began recording Christian music as a young teenager in the 1970's. Some of my records have been damaged or lost so I'm slowly replacing them thanks to Ebay!

Here are just a few more of my childhood collection...

-Kid's Praise with Psalty.
-Circle Square Gang
-Joni Eareckson Tada

Bullfrogs and Butterflies is another fun classic to sing along with. Do you remember any of these albums?

I also enjoy listening to Linda Ronstadt (The Blue Bayou is my favorite!) and being the good Canadian that I am, Anne Murray is at the top of my favorite list. :0)

Thank you for looking at my show and tell!

  4. We have Bullfrogs and Butterflies. I grew up listening to Music Machine (which is 'related' to the Bullfrogs and Butterflies). It's a very nice record player.

  5. I bet it is neat to have a record player like that.

My mom has an old fashioned record player too.

    I like Anne Murray too.

P.S. Is there anyway to delete the first Lori on your linky. I accidentally typed in the wrong address.

  7. I wish that we had a record player like that!

I remember going to my grandma's house. She had quite the record collection. We'd rollerskate in her basement as we listened to records. Those were fun days!

I love Psalty! Anne Murray is good too.

  8. My sister had a record player very similar to that one. I have a "new" record player that my hubby bought me a couple of years ago. My teenage son and his friends love to get it out and listen to my old, ancient, 1970's records!

  9. I wish I had some of my old records...many of them melted in a house fire we had while I was growing up...as a teen I remember buying one a week with my allowance!
My first ever show & tell is up!

Kelli I remember many of those singers and albums. Sadly I do not have the albums anymore.

Oh, and Anne Murray was wonderful. I loved her and I was not even Canadian.

I just love Show and Tell. What a great idea this was!

  15. I don't have any of my childhood records anymore, or a record player. :(

Psalty was my all-time favorite. I also enjoyed Dottie Rambo and the Creekbank Kids, Colby the Robot, and Rex Humbard's Kids Under Construction.

I think it's so neat to be able to share the music you enjoyed as a child with your kids. :)

    Have a blessed holiday weekend!

  18. I had Evie LPs too, now I think I have one on CD. Can't play my records anymore as I have no player.

  19. I am familiar with some of your childhood albums because I used their songs with the children's choir I directed as a teenager ~ lol! But Linda Ronstadt and Anne Murray ~ now that's just fine singing anyway you cut it! Second only to maybe the Carpenters (I loved them!). Fun post!! :o)

  20. I Love your treasure Kelli, I still have a ton of LP's back home in South Africa and a record player too LOL

I'm hoping to bring them back with me when I go visit next year.

    Thanks for sharing Kelli :)

  21. I remember phonographs very well! My grandpa worked for a vending machine company and I would often request the old records that they removed!
I once saw Anne Murray in concert, she was a favorite of mine
My Show N Tell is a combined post this week
    hugs!!

  22. These are wonderful! When I talk about my record player and records, my children give me sort of a 'huh...poor you' look! LOL But what wonderful memories!
When I was a little girl, our children's choir did an Evie musical. I still remember singing, "Step into the sunshine, get out of the rain.." LOL
I pray you will have a blessed weekend!
    Hugs,
    Amy

  23. What I meant by the 'poor you' look was, I think 'they' think I missed out by not having a CD player, etc. We ONLY had record players! But then again, I remember not having a microwave, etc. And I remember black/white t.v.'s, tape decks, AC window units, window fans, and refrigerators that had to be defrosted, etc. LOL I think I'm turning into a relic! LOL
    Take care,
    Amy

  28. This brought back such great memories for me, Kelli. As a teenager each week I would go to the Mall and spend my babysitting money on a top 45 record ~ as I recall they were 99cents:o) I'm sure my Mama remembers me playing them over and over and over! LOL I also remember when the needle would go bad you could put a nickel on top and it would work perfectly!!

  29. Kelli, I enjoy your show and tell. My mother has an old record player and lots of old records that I enjoy listening too.

  31. How neat is that!! I wish I still had records from my childhood -- I had one set of all the basic kid's songs. The only one I have is from Cinderella (seen at the bottom of this post: http://barbarah.wordpress.com/2006/08/22/tackle-it-tuesday-record-collection/ I loved it because it had a picture from the film right on the record). I do still have a lot of classical and sacred record albums from my college and early married years, and many of them are irreplaceable -- so i will probably always have a record player in the house.

  32. I loved Evie, too, and then in fifth grade I heard a very young Amy Grant (I think she was just 15 or 16 then). Our daughter now has Evie mixed in with her 40's and 50's record collection :)

  33. I really miss albums, cds just aren't the same!!

  34. We loved listening to records in the 'red room' growing up - named for the RED shag carpet that still cover the floor! We listened to my dad's old 45's and our favorite was "Beep beep, beep beep , the horn went beep beep beep!" - I'm sure it is a classic now! We also listened to Marcie and other records, but I have long forgotten their titles! I loved Evie too, as a girl, but I think those were on 8-track tapes, along with John Denver! Oh, the memories ~ thanks for sharing!

  35. What a fun show and tell. And how neat that you found it to use with your children!
    Have a wonderful weekend!

  38. I remember as a young girl going to the store to buy my first 45. I was around 9 or 10 and I was with my older, cooler cousin (she was around 16 or 17)...thanks for helping me to remember a great time from my childhood!

  39. What great memories. My sister and I had quite a large collection of 45's that we left behind at our parent's home and my father sold them at a flea market.:o( I miss those simple times, hanging out with our friends and listening to each other's records.

  40. Oh yes, I remember those records and we had some of them.

When I get through with some computer training for work and find my lost brain again, I'll be back to participate in Friday Show and Tell. It's really cool, but I'm buried right now.

  41. Hmm... Never heard of any of these except for Anne Murray.

I remember close and play record players! LOL

    Thanks for sharing!

  42. what a great show and tell item :o) I haven't been able to download photos yet to this computer ~ stink.

    I love Anne Murray :o)
Your post reminds me of my grandmother (I call her Memaw), who still has a furniture like record player in her living room. I keep telling her that she can buy Elvis CD's and play them in her CD player but she won't hear of it! haha!

    Have a great weekend!

  43. Your record player brought back so many memories. But, I think I'm much older than you! I don't remember many of your choices, but I do love Anne Murray and Linda Ronstadt is one of my favorites. Her "Heart Like a Wheel" album ALWAYS reminds me of my first boyfriend. It is amazing the things I remember when I hear any song from that album.

One of these days I will join your show and tell. I absolutely love it.

Have a safe and happy Memorial Day.

  44. Those are GREAT. A couple of them look somewhat familiar, so I may have had them. What a great show and tell.

I still sing "good morning, good morning good morning, it's time to rise and shine...the sun is up get out of bed, you've got to get up you sleepy head the day is dawning just for you and all your dreams, are coming truuuuuuue!!!" to my kids in the morning. Oh, how I miss those records!!!!!!
