Hello everyone! I made a fun Autumn snack yesterday: Apple Fritters. I found the recipe from Amy, who has one of my favorite blogs, Simple Folk. She got the recipe from Tina at Garden Goose, who was sweet enough to give me permission to share the recipe with you! Thank you, Tina!
I used "Honeycrunch" apples.
Apple Fritters
2 cups self rising flour
3 tablespoons sugar
2 eggs well beaten
1 cup milk
2 cups tart apples, chopped
Sift together dry ingredients. Gradually add beaten eggs and milk combined. Refrigerate batter for about 2 hours. Stir in the apples. Drop by tablespoon into hot oil and fry until golden brown. Roll in powdered sugar or a sugar/cinnamon combination.
I haven't fried anything in at least 8 years so I was a little nervous. I'm happy to report that I didn't burn my house down. ;0) The fritters fried up very quickly and easily and they weren't greasy at all.
I cooked the fritters on medium heat.
Then rolled them in cinnamon sugar.
Help yourself!
If you have any leftovers and want them to stay crispy on the outside, don't cover them.
Let me know if you try them!
Mmmmm, my dh and dd love apple fritters! I have never tried to make them, though, but will give your recipe a try. Thank you for sharing, Kelli!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing these Kelli! Those are something I always wanted to try making!
ReplyDeleteThose look SO delicious! I am terribly TERRIBLY afraid of frying since I don't have one of those fabulous fry-daddy things...but you make it look so easy! Maybe, JUST maybe, I will have to try them.
ReplyDeletePS. So THAT is the secret to keeping things fried crispy on the outside-not covering them?! Neat. That is good to know...
They look delicious - I'd love to make them, as time allows. If I will, I'll tell you!
ReplyDeleteThose look delicious. I, like you, do not fry anymore. But these look worth the calories.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I just might have to stop my "diet" to try these. Yummy!
ReplyDeleteI might have to make these in the morning for breakfast!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Terri
Yummy!
ReplyDeleteMy mom used to make them when I was a child and she still makes them for my dad. We both love them...we additional put a mix of sugar and cinnamon on top of the fritters. Very, very tasty.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day, hugs, Britta

Thank you!

We both just remembered.... The ones we had were not sugared. They were simply fried. And then served with Maple Syrup.
ReplyDeleteWe both remember that we had them at a restaurant somewhere around here. But we can't remember the name of the restaurant. :-)

i'm going to stop coming to your blog when i see the name of a food dish as the title. you make me soooo hungry for your yummy creations. (only kidding, of course i'll be back =])
ReplyDeleteOmigosh I love apple fritters but have never tried to make my own..now I will!!! They seem easy enough to do:-) Thank you so much for sharing the recipe dear Kelli!! xox
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned using "Honeycrunch" Apples....I believe the correct name is "Honeycrisp". It is very juicy and crunchy, but not tart, as the recipe calls for. It probably worked well for the apple fritters because of the crunch. It doesn't get real soft when cooked so it's not generally used for sauce or pies (although the taste is good, the most people want a softer texture for those dishes).
ReplyDeleteIf someone wanted a more tart, but still crunchy apple a better choice would be a Macintosh, JonaMac, or Empire.
Just thought I'd pass on some info I use daily in my work at a farm market in Michigan's fruit belt. Happy eating!
Yikes, I can't believe you have 30 comments!! My father-in-law is known as the fritter man at all of the stores around here that sell apple fritters--he loves them. However I don't think I could fry anything....even for him!! lol
ReplyDeleteThank you for letting me know about my typo, Anonymous! I definitely meant "Honeycrisp!" LOL
