Thank you for your comments on the wedding pictures! We got home very late two nights in a row, so I'm still catching up on sleep, but I was able to work on a small project this weekend.
Homemade seed packets.
Some of you may remember the surprise sunflower that popped up in Emily's garden.
It was time to harvest the seeds.
Lots of seeds!
Benjamin was my helper.
Final count: 870!
I traced a seed packet template onto scrapbook paper. Then folded and glued the edges.
I printed out the name of the flower and a short poem on white paper, cut with decorative scissors and dabbed the edges with a gold ink pad.
I added a bow and now they are ready to tuck into letters or save for small Christmas gifts.
Thank you for taking a look!
the packets are beautiful and that SUNFLOWER is HUGE !!! WOW !!!! Can you hear me over here??? That thing is HUGE !!! thanks for sharing... you are quite the clever lady !! Hugs, Mica
ReplyDeleteKelli you are always making the most beautiful things, you are very creative.

I was just asking my husband about sunflower seeds..
ReplyDeleteso my question is.. could you have eaten those seeds or how do they get from the flower to the kind you can eat?
silly question, but i have no idea how these things work LOL
Kelli, how do you come up with these ideas? That is the neatest thing I've seen! What a beautiful, thoughtful, and frugal gift idea. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolutely BEAUTIFUL idea Kelli!!!! I LOVE how your mind thinks!! I love your creativity!!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet and unique idea. I love it. You are such a thoughtful person.
ReplyDeleteKelli, I have this template in my scrapbook supplies and years ago, used it for everything. Never thought about seeds... And you present it so pretty!!! I have a cypress fern in the mail box planter. Folks knock on the door, stop in in the church hallways and grocery stores....
ReplyDeleteI need to get that template out. I need to buy some of that beautiful gold stamping ink. :-)
Thanks so much for sharing!
Kelli,
ReplyDeleteThe seed packets are awesome! What a beautiful gift for someone!
I am going to have to grow sunflowers next year...missed out on it this time! They are so impressive!

You certainly have the gift of creativity! These packets will be a beautiful gift for someone.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful idea. I just harvested 2 varieties of Zinnia seeds. These would be great gifts. You are so crafty. I think that I will try this project. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThis is so helpful, Kelli. I have the Skyscraper Sunflowers and had no idea how to harvest the seeds!
ReplyDeleteWhere do you get all of your ideas?
That is a great idea! I don't know what is wrong with me, but I never thought to pass along my flower seeds to others as gifts. Maybe it is because they don't look very gift-like in a sandwich bag and twist-tie!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Wow! I love to collect my own seed at the end of each season. Thanks for inspiring me to create beautiful seed packets.
ReplyDeleteSteph
You are so creative! What a wonderful idea!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great display of simple elegance. ;)

How sweet and what pretty photos too. I just love Sunflowers. Well actually all flowers. I hope to have a garden and flowerbeds next year. I saved the tulips and the canna's so I have a start!

Martha should read your blog...you can give her ideas! Ooh how pretty, and how BIG that flower is!
ReplyDeleteYou have such fantastic projects. Those will make such sweet gifts.
ReplyDeleteThe wedding pics are so pretty. All the kids look great.
What a wonderful gift! Too bad our little sunflowers that the birds "planted" don't ever seem to produce seed. I may try that with my radish seeds though. I think my secret prayer partner would love it.
ReplyDeleteI am still waiting for my sunflower to get that big...it's taking forever!
ReplyDeleteI love the seed packet template that you used, the one I use is way too tiny!
Wishing you a blessed day Kelly!
This is a WONDERFUL idea, Kelli! I love your creativity!
ReplyDeleteYou have had a busy and beautiful weekend. How clever to package the mammoth sunflower seeds!

Thank you so much for this template. It is amazing what is out there that is free - ut finding it sometimes is the hard part! I want to use these for me - and the seeds that I collect each year for the next!
ReplyDeleteYou are just amazing! Thanks so much for sharing this idea. I have some sunflower seeds as well. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteLinda

ReplyDeleteI LOVE this idea!!! We're planning on doing just handmade gifts this year for Christmas, so I will be doing these for stocking stuffers for sure! Thanks for the idea.
ReplyDeleteKelli, you always have the very best ideas! I have a sunflower gowing and if the birds don't eat all the seeds I will do this also. I love the print and the saying too!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Pat
I've had just the most lovely visit catching up with you after the weekend, Kelli. The wedding party was so handsome! The flowers were breathtaking. And, of course, I am smitten with your sunflower project.

What a WONDERFUL idea! I know it would be a great gift to receive. I have never seen such a huge sunflower. I would love to be able to grow one like that.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! Please do a giveaway and give us all a chance to win one!!
ReplyDeleteIf not, I would like to order a packet from you!
Fantastic project Kelli - I can't imagine that many seeds from one flower - why do the seeds cost so much in the stores - and they certainly are NOT in lovely packaging like yours! Excellent job! We have some dinner plate hibiscus seeds that I'll have to try to do something pretty with.
ReplyDeleteThose packets turned out exceptionally well! Love all the photos! :-)
ReplyDeleteKelli,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea! Were the seeds difficult to get out of the sunflower? For some reason, that picture gave me goosebumps! lol
Have a lovely week!
Gina
I love that! I love gift ideas like this...so unique! And those sunflower heads are gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteYout Sunflowers are beautiful and the packets are so different and really made me think about my own Sunflowers. I hadn't thought of making these Big beauty's into a gift of any kind. We harvest the whole flower head and set them one by one for the birds and other critters that might want to enjoy them. You do some really fun crafts.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Mary

ReplyDeleteKelli!!! You never cease to amaze me with your ideas and creativity. I never realized how to harvest sunflower seeds like that. This is my first year having sunflowers, and the yellow exploded on one of them finally! Can't wait till the others catch up. ;-) I will try to save my seeds, too now that I see how to do it.
ReplyDeleteThose are so precious, Kelli. What a great idea! I think you need to get to work on a book, TV show or something! Of course your little magazine is beautiful. You have so many lovely ideas to share.
ReplyDeleteKelli, I am doing a blog post on seed saving... can I use your seed packet pictures and link to your blog? I have seen great templates before but none as beautiful as yours for gift giving. I am thinking about making these for my son's rehearsal dinner. Love love love them!
