Weekend Chit~Chat

Pond
It is going to be a very stormy weekend here in the Dallas area. Hurricane Ike is on it's way, although it will be a tropical storm by then. I have no idea what to expect, but we are stocked up on ice, water, and food. My sister is in Houston and had a rough night, but is safe and sound. Thank you for your prayers and to all who checked in on us in the comments and email.

I really don't like storms, especially windy ones, so I'm going to try and keep busy today, instead of living at weather.com. :0) We rented some movies last night, so as long as the power stays on, the kids will enjoy a movie day.

Kitchen
Right now I have some pear jam cooking away on the stove.

Decorations
Plenty of fall decorations to put up.

Paper
And new scrapbook paper to have fun with.

I hope you have a great (and less wet!) weekend than us!

  1. Boy I can't wait to see what you create! I finally got my post up. I had all kinds of issues yesterday! It is already raining.
We were moving some fencing building a new pen and just got it finished before it started to rain.
    Take care and create!
    Smiles,
    Sherry

That pear jam sounds so good!
I checked out the book on Back to the Table and enjoyed it as we traveled this week. Thanks.
I will pray for you as this storm passes by....

I am thinking of you as Ike hits Texas. I pray you all stay safe.

I have a question about scrapbook paper, which is really expensive here (like 3 dollars a sheet). I recently started to photocopy fabric from my stash and I wondered if this is foolishly expensive, given the price of colored ink for the printer, or comparable to the s/b sheets. Obviously it is not anywhere near the quality or durability of the real thing. But it does, for example make neat jam lables when the jar is topped with a matching mob cap! Just wondered if you have any thoughts on this. (Like you don't have anything else to worry about!) ;)Take care, Gill.

  9. I hope that you all are hunkered down well for the storm. I have been keeping everyone in the path in my prayers.

Yesterday my smocking arts guild had a 'Sit 'n Sew' at a member's home. (She provided a wonderful lunch.) We had one call from a member saying she could not come b/c of friends and family, who had just left her home a week before, were evacuating s/w LA and coming back to Birmingham... Then another member got a call. It was a friend who lives in Harmon (?I know I have that wrong) the levies were breached and they were still cleaning up from Gustav. But they are used to it.

I hope you just get nice slow drenching rain.

I don't like storms either especially when there's lightning involved (which we get quite a bit of in ATL). I hope the power stays on and I think staying busy is a good idea. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

    Take care,

    Manuela

  11. Hope all is well with you and your family. Been watching the news and it looks pretty bad down there! Hopefully you won't lose power. We lost power up here in PA a few years ago in January for 3days...we were freezing. It was about 45 in our house!! Keep safe!

  12. Praying for your safety and peace in the middle of the storm! And good to hear that your dear ones are safe. You can always decorate by candlelight if the power goes off. ~Adrienne~

Hi Kelli, I am afraid of storms too. I have been in two tornadoes and a terrible flood in Rapid City, SD many years ago. Now, I live in the Pacific NW and two years ago we had a 115 foot tree come down on our house right before Christmas. Thank heavens we weren't home. Everything got fixed in a hurry so we were lucky.

I loved your post and I have one question for you...."Can I come to your house to play?" HE! HE! I think it would be a lot of fun.

Hope everything stays calm there. Love and prayers, Debbi

  23. We are having a wet weekend here and they are giving Ike credit for it, too.

My counters are full of pears in the process of ripening. They are chemical-free so have had lots of bug holes to cut out. Not so pretty to can, IOW. Yesterday I canned pear sauce-the pear equivalent of applesauce. Hoping it will be a hit here.

Blessings as you "weather" the storm.

  27. I'm praying for your safety. Please update us when you can. The pear jam sounds wonderful, is it easy to make? I have a lot of pears to use in the fridge and would love to make it if it is fairly simple.
I hope you have fun creating and decorating. :)

  31. Oh I love that fall scrapbooking paper!
So glad your sis is ok. I live in an area that requires evacuations often during hurrican season. I know it can be an uneasy feeling.
I'm off now to read more of your posts. I've been away for way too long!

  34. Glad you are in Dallas, and not farther south. (I checked on Google maps Friday, just to be sure you were out of harms way)

Hope the power stays on for you and the movies enjoyed. I was thinking of you yesterday as I started doing some decorating.

    Take care

  37. Gill,
I'm sorry you have to pay so much for scrapbook paper! I'm not sure how much colored ink is, but you are probably saving money by photocopying your fabric. Great idea!

  38. Sounds more like a holiday than a storm! And since it ended up not being too bad, it practically was!
