Simple Pleasures and Apple Turnovers

Good morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I was able to have a little alone time Sunday afternoon. Here are a few pictures of what I enjoyed...

Rose

Bleeding heart
I was worried my Bleeding Heart wasn't going to come back. It even has a tiny flower, which I didn't even noticed at first.

Flower pots

Hummingbird

Daisy
We are celebrating a birthday this week...Daisy turns one.

Daisy
And I'm happy to report she no longer fits in our water garden!

Daisy
She does love playing in the hose though. She's a good girl, a wonderful family pet and she even keeps our feet warm at night. :0)

Apple turnovers
And lastly, a plate of homemade Apple Turnovers. Thank you for the recipe, Gina!

I hope you all have a great start to your week!

Coffee Staining Paper ~ Paper Crafting and a *GIVEAWAY!*

The winners of last week's paper crafting are Grams and Clare. Please email me your addresses and I'll get your prizes in the mail. Also, I'm going to start a weekly giveaway...keep reading for more details!

Coffee staining
Today, I'm sharing how I make coffee stained tags and paper. It's very simple and doesn't take a long time.

White tags
Get your paper and tags ready. If you are using tags, string them first.

Coffee staining
Pour cold coffee in a 9 x 13 pan and soak your paper and tags for 5 minutes. Make sure they are completely submerged.

Coffee stained tags
Let coffee drain from tags (I also run two fingers down the strings) and place on cookie sheet. They will darken as they dry.

Coffee stained tags
Bake in a 225F oven for 3-5 minutes. As soon as the edges start to curl remove from oven. Keep a very close eye on them because this happens quickly. You can also leave the oven door open a little to watch. Remove tags or paper from pan and let cool and dry on a flat surface.

Coffee stained tags
Once dry, put them under a heavy book until completely flat. That's it! I've been coffee staining quite a bit lately. Here are some things I've made...

Coffee stained tags
Paris gift tags.

Coffee stained stationery set
Bird stationery set.

Coffee stained bookmark

Monday Morning Snickerdoodles

Snickerdoodles
Good morning! The girls and I are on our way to visit a retirement home with our Faith Keeper's group. Some of the girls are going to sing songs, play the piano, or recite a poem. Everyone is also bringing a treat to share, so we made snickerdoodles.

Snickerdoodles

Snickerdoodles

1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons white sugar
4 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1. Preheat oven to 375F.
2. In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together. Add eggs and vanilla.
3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Add to the creamed mixture and blend well.
4. In a small bowl, stir together the 4 tablespoons of sugar, and the cinnamon. Roll dough into walnut sized balls, then roll in the cinnamon sugar. Place cookies on lightly greased cookie sheet, two inches apart. Flatten slightly with bottom of glass.
5. Bake for 6-8 minutes. Edges should be slightly brown. Cool on wire rack.

Have a wonderful start to your week. I'll be back soon with some Easter decorations.
