Weekend Chit~Chat

Linens
Thank you for your help on how to care for my new linen placemats and napkins. You weren't kidding when you said they would get wrinkled after washing!

Napkin
I ironed them and then went to the fabric store, where I found this green print. I cut out shamrocks and will applique one onto a corner of each napkin. Doing the first one is always fun, but the question is, will I finish all four. ;0) I only have 17 days, so I'd better get busy.

Buttermilk
I also wanted to show you my homemade buttermilk. I got the recipe from Amy at Simple Folk and it was so easy to make!

Buttermilk
All you need is: cultured buttermilk for your starter, whole milk and a quart jar. Go HERE for the recipe.

Cake
Tonight, I put the buttermilk to good use by making Amy's Sugar Cookie Cake.

Cake
It has a delicious topping and the cake is moist and really does taste like a sugar cookie! We enjoyed a piece with a glass of milk while watching The Secret Garden.

Well, I'm off to enjoy the weekend with my family. I'll talk to you all soon!

"Show and Tell Friday!"

Welcome to “Show and Tell Friday!” Do you have something special to share with us? It could be a trinket from grade school, a piece of jewelry, or a treasured collection. Look around your home for something to share; dig through those boxes in your closet if you have to! Share photos and the story that goes with your special item.

The resale store was calling my name yesterday and I'm glad I listened. ;0) Here are a few things that I found...
Wreath
A new spring wreath for my front door. Cost: $3.09.

Wreath
The green leaves and pink berries are perfect for spring.

Wreath
I added the bow when we got home.

Napkins
Four blue toile napkins. Cost: $2.09

Napkins
A romantic scene.

Linens
I also found this unopened box of 4 placemats and 4 napkins.

Napkins
They were $8.00, which I more than I usually pay for something at the resale store, but it is Irish linen and I plan on embroidering little shamrocks in the corners.

Napkins
I'm not sure how to care for the fabric though. Can I wash them in the machine? Cold or hot water? Can I iron them?

Plate
And lastly, I spotted a box with this tiny lettuce bunny plate. I opened it up and found...

Teaset
a mini tea set! Cost: $1.50.

Tea pot

We'll have to invite the bunny fairies over for tea!

Thank you for looking at my show and tell!

The Secret Garden

Book
Ever since my mom introduced me to The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett when I was 12, I've been obsessed in love with anything having to do with the story.

Book
I have several copies of the book, a journal, notecards, three versions of the movie (I only like the one by Hallmark) and I've been learning Nocturne in E minor by Chopin, which is the theme song of the movie, on the piano.

Bird
So, when I came across this sweet face in the resale store this afternoon, I immediately thought of the 'The Robin Who Showed The Way.'

Secret garden
I found a little silver dish, laid down some moss, added two small pots, a robin's egg and a rusty key.

Secret Garden
It's the perfect spot for a little robin!

Winter Quick Breads

Hello everyone! Thank you for sharing your lovely garden dreams with me yesterday. It sounds like many of us have similar plans for this coming spring!

Now, I know that winter isn't quite over, so I'm sharing some quick bread recipes that will hopefully cheer the long and dark days.

Banana Bread
The first one is a classic Banana Bread that is one of my favorite snacks.

Banana Bread
If there are any leftovers, try a slice toasted for breakfast.

Orange Spice Loaf
The second one is an Orange Spice Loaf with Marmalade Butter. Everyone at my house gave it two thumbs up!

Come on over to Seasonal Delights for the recipes and let me know if you try them!

~Garden Dreams~

Victoria
Hello everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I picked up the latest issue of Victoria magazine and found myself dreaming of...

Magazine
hidden ponds and secret gardens...

Magazine
wildflowers and fairies...

Magazine
and sweet home~grown strawberries.

Magazine
I also discovered that eating a jam made of marigolds or calendula will make fairies visible to the naked eye. So *that's* why I didn't see any last year. ;0)

Pots
Even though my own gardens never end up looking like the magazine pictures, that doesn't stop me from having fun. I have my seed pots ready to go.

Cupboard
My seed cupboard is full.

Seeds

Books
And my gardening books are ready to be read again.

Benjamin
What is this? Oh, it's a cute pirate that has come to wake me from my dreams!

Share your garden dreams with me!

Sunday Evening

Tea
Good evening! Tonight is the final part of Pride and Prejudice on PBS. We have our tea and snack ready. Is anyone else watching it?

Look around your home for something to share; dig through those boxes in your closet if you have to! Share photos and the story that goes with your special item.

Hello everyone! Did you know that today is George Washington's birthday? I thought I would show you my stamp collection, since I have many George Washington stamps. :0)
Books
I started collecting stamps when I was around 10 years old. I had a few friends who also collected them and we would trade our favorites back and forth. As you can see, I have lots of stamp books on my shelf. The red Traveler Stamp Album was the one that started it all.

Boxes
I dug these boxes out of my closet this afternoon. They are filled with even more stamps!

Stamps
Who knows when I will have time to go through these, but I still enjoy having them.

Envelopes
I do have some of them organized. This box is full of envelopes and each envelope represents a country. Guess what they are filled with? ;0)

Book
This is an old stamp book that I got on ebay a few years ago.

Note
It belonged to an Elizabeth H. Andrews from Cambridge, Mass.

These stamps are from 1847.

Speaking of George Washington, we have a tradition of baking a cherry pie for his birthday each year.

You can find the recipe in the post down below! Thank you for looking at my show and tell!
