Hello!

I'm having a busy week but had to share a picture of my first water lily of the season. We've been getting lots of rain but as soon as the sun came out for a few minutes this morning, the flower opened up!



I have a piano recital this coming Saturday and if you are famililar with anxiety/nervousness issues that you'll know that I'm not a happy camper right now! If I'm not at the piano practicing, I'm starring off into space wondering how many mistakes I'll make. ;0)

Sewing and Reading. That's what I've been busy with lately. We have a comfortable bench out front so I can keep an eye on Benjamin and the girls while they play and ride their scooters. May is the best month in Texas. I always say that until October comes around and then it's my favorite month. ;0)

I've been wanting to learn how to make yo-yo's, so I found these great online instructions and got out my basket of scraps.


I don't have the patience for a quilt so I'm making a couple of potholders. This one is half finished and it took less than an hour.

I also finished embroidering a baby onesie this afternoon...


I mentioned that we were making a trip to the bookstore this past weekend. Have you read The Sugar Creek Gang series? Phillip and I read them when we were younger and loved them! The lady at the used books store said they are hard to find so I was surprised to see 5 of them on the shelf.


I've also been looking for Lark Rise to Candleford by Flora Thompson. I found a copy for less than $3.00!

An endearing and precise record of country life in England at the last century.


And last but not least, My Mother's Garden. An essay collection about Love, Flowers and Family.

I'm not finished the book yet, but here are a few quotes I've been enjoying...

Five Senses Weekend

Hello everyone! We are having a rainy Saturday. Phillip is out getting a tire fixed and then I'm hoping to go to the used bookstore. I wanted to say a special thank you to everyone who joined in for "Show and Tell Friday." Several of you mentioned that show and tell was one of your favorite things in school and it was for me too! Thank you for your comments about my hair. I didn't realize how red it looks in a few of the pictures, must have been weird camera lighting! I do have some red highlights but it's mostly brown.

I thought I would take a minute to post another Five Senses Weekend. I got the idea from Sandra.

See: We went to a few yard sales yesterday and I found this small table for $2.00. I'm using it as a plant stand in my kitchen.


Touch: Here is my new $1.00 table runner...


Here you can see a close-up of the pattern. I also got these 5 pale yellow napkins for $1.00.


Hear: Early this morning I was hearing the sounds of hammers. On the first Saturday of the month, Home Depot has a free kid's workshop. Today, the project was these mini herb planters, complete with seeds to plant!


I am also hearing the sound of new books being read. These two fabric covered books are in perfect condition (another yard sale find) and are going to be set aside for my niece's upcoming birthday.


Taste: I heard about these new "Bug Bites" from Rebecca. Aren't they cute? They taste good too!


Smell: My impatiens seem to be happy with all the rain we've been getting.

Prayer Request

I have a favor to ask. My friend, Patty became a Grandma this past week. Here is her new grandbaby, Mei-Ling having a little stretch!


Mei-Ling has 3 small holes in her heart that will heal up, but in the meantime they are causing her to breath so fast that she is unable to nurse or drink a bottle. Please keep this little one in your prayers. Her Mom and Dad are anxious to bring her home! You can visit Patty for more sweet pictures and updates. Thank you!

Call Me Crazy!

Most people go to the salon when they want a new hairstyle. I like to go to Google.com!

I know two people who have gotten great results from the following internet instructions:

1. Gather and comb the hair upwards on top of the head and secure with a rubber band - like a ponytail on top of the head.
2. Comb the ponytail straight up, all the way up and hold it there.
3. Take the scissors and, cutting straight across the held up ponytail, cut off around three or four inches depending on the length of your hair.
4. Pull out the elastic band and give your head a good shake.

My supplies are all ready...

A comb, scissors, grey coverage, and the phone book. The phone book is for looking up a nearby salon in case Google lets me down. ;0)



My hair is slightly curly and down to my waist so hopefully I'll be back with something easier to manage. So, am I crazy?!
