Last night Nana, Papa and Uncle Jonathan came over to help us decorate pumpkins. First, we cut out the tops.

Then, we scooped out the insides. Be sure to save the seeds!

Time to transfer the pattern onto the pumpkin.

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds
1 1/2 cups raw whole pumpkin seeds
2 teaspoons butter, melted
1/2 teaspoons salt (you can add more or less)

Preheat oven to 300F. Toss seeds in a bowl with the melted butter and salt. Spread the seeds in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for about 45 minutes or until golden brown, stir occasionally.

Here are the finished pumpkins!!!

Here is my pumpkin owl, inspired by Martha Stewart. Don't worry, he's friendly!

  4. Hi, Kelli,

We worked on our pumpkins last night too and I've got a nice jar of roasted seeds sitting on the counter. I think that may be one of MY favorite treats of the season.

Your pies look great. :) I wish my family liked apple pies, but alas, they do not. Your crusts look lovely too... Perhaps you could e-mail me the recipe whenever you get a moment; mine never seems to work out the way I want it to...
