Thank you so much for all the sweet comments about my calendar envelopes and Grace says thank you too, for the encouraging comments about her work in the kitchen!
Today I want to share an idea for a winter centerpiece. My mom got me this Marjolein Bastin calendar for Christmas and I was inspired by the January picture. Marjolein is one of my favorite artists and does beautiful work.
Here is my version of her winter basket.
I lined the basket with ivy and filled it with apples, pinecones and mixed nuts and berries.
I also added a red bow to one of the handles.
The house always looks so bare after putting the Christmas decorations away, this helps to cheer things up again! Thank you for looking!
Looks so nice Kelli. We have put out a variety of pink candles and a big clear cylindrical vase with a branch of forsythia that is budding. It's hard to know which way to go at this time of year. You gotta do something!

Oh I LOVE it. I hated the drab look when I took all my stuff down also. That piece great. Don't tell her,but I like yours better.
ReplyDeleteI have that exact same calendar for this year! I just love her artwork. (o:

That is beautiful and what a great idea !
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing :)
How pretty! And I started making my own calendar envelopes today. We are going to use them for Valentine's Day cards
ReplyDeleteThat is so pretty and will surely "brighten" up those dark winter days!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you took the time to tell us about this centerpiece. I noticed it in the background of your table setting in your previous post (Gracie's cooking) and I thought it was striking. I've been trying to find just the right thing for my table and this is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI have that same calendar...as do my daughters and daughter in law...
ReplyDeleteGifts to us from my mom-in-law.
Gotta love anything MB.
Very nice centerpiece, Kelli.
I agree, her art work is beautiful. I have several items of hers that I've received as gifts and picked up at garage sales, and I frame her cards because they are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteKelli, that is so pretty! I wouldn't have thought of a centerpiece like this. I have a candle or fruit on my table during the winter, but I like your idea better.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty Kelli, I kept my Christmas planter just so that I could have some kind of winter centerpiece.
ReplyDeleteOh it is lovely. And edible too! Someday soon when I get the camera fixed I'll have to post belated show and tells. A couple of years ago I found these really cute tall red vases (I think) at Big Lots of all places. They have cute Chirstmas trees on one side. I put them on the fireplace. Then when I took down all the other things I turned them around with the trees facing the fireplace and added red candles sticks with chunky white candles and some other white stuff and left it all up through Feb. I also had saved a red berry wreath and replaced the Christmas one with it hanging from a mirror over the fireplace. Are you going to use the calendar for cards next year?
ReplyDeleteIt's so beautiful, Kelli! What a lovely and accurate re-creation!
ReplyDeleteI agree that a winter home needs a little sparkle after Christmas. You have done it well!!
ReplyDeleteNicely done, Kelli!
ReplyDeleteKelli ~ It looks beautiful! What a great idea for inspiration! Many years ago ;o), I worked in a flower shop. Even floral designers sometimes use pictures for design ideas.
ReplyDeleteI really like it, Kelli. It is a bright cheery spot :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Kelli, I love her art work too.. Anything with nature always appeals to me. A lovely inspiration...and your basket is beautiful. Linda
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful as always!

How beautiful, Kelli! And what a wonderful idea to copy the centerpiece from the artwork. I love Marjolein Bastin's work, as well. Hmmm.. I think I have everything on hand I would need to make a basket like this one. Would you mind if I borrowed your idea?
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Your centerpiece is beautiful, how neat to have pulled inspiration from your calendar.

I guess we have to put our Christmas decorations away first, before our house looks bare!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea though! I always want to put some bright things out in January, since it is so long and dreary.
Very nice, you have such a good eye, that should dress the place up a bit in absence of the holly and mistletoe. *Ü*
ReplyDeleteI love it when inspiration comes from such unexpected places - a calendar, no less! Who would have thought? I love your centerpiece! I've been staring at 3 lovely pine cones on my counter for a week now trying to think what to do with them - now I know! Thank you! Again!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea. We have a big dough trough with our fruit in it, but I love your decoration. Right, I shall give my bowl a revamp with some greenery too. Jennie
ReplyDeleteYou did a wonderful job of your January basket. I do know what you mean about the house looking bare after the Christmas decorations are put away.
ReplyDeleteI like your version of the basket so much better than the one the artist painted. You are so talented.
ReplyDeleteIt all looks very nice.
ReplyDeleteI am going to be trying trying to make those calendar notecards!
That is just beautiful. What a great idea and it looks so good on your table.
ReplyDeleteI still have my snowmen up, then they'll leave in a bit to be replaced by hearts, hearts and more hearts.
Beautiful winter basket! I feel the same way about the house looking bare after Christmas. Such a grand idea!

I've always loved Marjolein Basten and you certainly did capture that painted basket with fruits and nuts perfectly! It looks wonderful as a centerpiece!! xox
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea....any ideas on a wreath for the front door in these cold winter months?
ReplyDeleteSo festive and elegant, Kelli! I love the use of such warm, inviting colors during the chilly winter months. Your home is always so lovely! You need a Bed and Breakfast. ;)
