Good morning! We managed to get our garage completely cleaned out and in 4-6 weeks this will be our new family room. Construction started this morning and the same company that built our shed is also doing the conversion work.  I will share progress pictures as they go along.

These shelves are on the opposite garage wall, so I took all of my tea things down since there will be a lot of banging around. I've also decided to paint the kitchen the same color as the new room, which will be a creamy beige. The walls look harsh yellow in pictures, but it's not so bad in person.

Either way, Phillip isn't a fan, so he will be very happy to see a different color, and I think the two rooms will flow together better. It's my goal to have the kitchen painted by Thanksgiving, but the work crew won't have the family room finished until early December.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, we are hoping to have dinner at our house, but it will depend on whether our new table and chairs are ready. We ordered them from the Amish Furniture Warehouse and chose a stain to match our current hutch. My parents gave us their dining room table when we got married and Phillip's parents gave us one a few years ago, so this will be our first new set. We have many blessings to be thankful for this Thanksgiving!

Well, that is what is going on at our house. I hope you have a wonderful first week of November!

So exciting to get a new room! When we lived in Ft. Worth, we wanted to convert our garage into a new kitchen/dining area, but we just never had the time and/or money. I'm looking forward to seeing your new family room. Having it done by Thanksgiving is very ambitious - I wish you well with it! :)

Can't wait to see how you decorate your new room. Are you going to change your living room into something else now that you will have such a big family room? Oh and tell Philip that I have always loved the yellow kitchen....mine is yellow too! Miss ya!

That is so exciting. I remember when I was finally able to purchase the dining room table I'd always wanted.

It was (is) a pine table, which is a wood my husband (who has a Master's Degree in Wood Science) doesn't care for. However, since pine was far cheaper than any other wood table... he learned to love it. :)

I hope it is all done by Christmas!

Kelli, I am so happy for you. It will be lots of work but the end results will be worth it.

Love the new table and chairs. You will make a lot of memories around them.

Love, Debbi

Exciting times! I'm looking forward to seeing the progress!

Our kitchen is yellow too! I do love the warmth that yellow walls make, but I'm ready for a change. I'm going with a more neutral colour so I can accessorize for the seasons as I've always wanted to do that.

Blessings!

I'm sure you will have the family room as pretty as everything else!
Maybe your new furniture will be there by Thanksgiving, if not, it is more about the people, fun, good food, and happiness!
Have a wonderful day!

I think you are very smart to convert your garage to more living space. I've always thought I could not live without a garage, but for the past year, I've done just that and am doing well. Your shed looks like a great addition to your backyard, as well. Glad to hear things are going so well.

Since we are in the process of doing the same thing, I will be following your garage-to-family-room conversion with much interest. But since our projects go veeeeery slowly, I'm sure you will be enjoyig your new space long before me!

Oh how I wish my garage looked like that! I can't even imagine. :-) I'm anxious to see your finished project. You must be so excited. It's a good thing you remembered to take down your precious things....I had a similar situation and DIDN'T remember...YIKES!

Kelli - how fun! We did the same thing to our garage a few years ago and turned it into an office for the Historian who has a FEW books!
As far as color, I don't know if you have already picked your paint, but I love love love Sherwin Williams 'Macadamia'. It is a nice 'beige' and goes with everything - it is not too yellow or too pink - very neutral and rich! That's my 2 cents for you!

I love construction projects...just not in my house! I'll look forward to seeing the updates here though. I think the cream color in your kitchen will be beautiful as it is more neutral but yellow is pretty too. It's what I call a happy color. :)
