Vintage Flower Frog

Good morning! Have you ever heard of a flower frog? It's a flower arranging tool that you place in the bottom of a vase or bowl and then stick flower stems inside the pin heads. I'm not sure why it's called a flower frog though!

My sister-in-law and I went antique shopping yesterday and I had to bring this tiny one (only 1 1/2") home with me.

I'm using it as a pretty display in my work area.

I had never heard of them until I started going to the auctions I go to every week. They often have some of the antique flower frogs and they're quite sellable, I can never get over how much people will pay for them!! I love the idea of using one as a little holder as you did:-) xoxo

I love the old flower frogs! I have never thought about using one to hold a card or picture. Thanks for the idea! Carla

Oh Kelli, if you had posted this 5 months ago I would have screamed out thankyou! I live in Australia and see so many of the USA blogs I follow use these flower frogs in their photos with cards etc. I finally found out after google searching, asking blogees.....so I then immediately searched for some on ebay and found some in Australia. The ones I bid on were made in Australia and made in Australia. I had never seen them before seeing them on american card making blogs, anyhow I won the auction and love them so much. They appear to be made of lead as they would not rust in the bottom of vases etc. Long live flower frogs. Thanks for your post.

I have seen the glass ones with holes (rather than metal spikes) used as pen holders in gift shops and on telephone stands.

Lovely, Kelli! I knew what they were but had not seen them used to display cards and other items until I saw this done on someone's blog last week. The glass ones are pretty, too. Love the idea of using these as part of a display.
