Welcome to “Show and Tell Friday!” Do you have something special to share with us? It could be a trinket from grade school, a piece of jewelry, or a treasured collection. Look around your home for something to share; dig through those boxes in your closet if you have to! Share photos and the story that goes with your special item.
Today I am going to show you some special things on the bookshelf in our schoolroom.
We have several friends who are missionaries and they have given us neat things from the countries they serve in.
One of our friends just got back from Central Asia and brought us this stocking.
All the stitches are hand done and cover the front and back.
This is a Piola (pronounced Pee-ola) teacup . It is used for a weak black tea and then milk and either vegetable oil or butter are added to it. It is sweetened with sugar, unless they are having a large party and then it is unsweetened.
My friend also sent me these sweet little dolls this past Christmas. I keep them in the teacup.
A musical instrument very much like a tamborine. The top is most likely goat skin.
Metal rings along the inside rim. It's noisy!
These little egg shaped boxes are from Egypt.
Perfect for holding tiny things.
And finally a beautiful plaque that has The Lord's Prayer written in Arabic.
The words begin in the middle and go all around the edges.

I love gifts from around the world. The things you shared are lovely. I will have to show the things on my special shelf at work when I retire!
These are beautiful Kelli! I love the Lords Prayer piece. We have an auction at church for the mission in Honduras, and they always bring back plenty of items from there.
I recently just found a bunch of old paper dolls I had stashed away that were designed for a teacher to use in a Sunday School class. It was people from all around the world. Your wonderful gifts from missionaries made me think fo them.

What a variety of things from different places!
Very cool blog--we have a lot in common. I homeschooled my kids for eight years. Kids are teens now, but we all still enjoy doing creative crafts together. You have lovely collections.
These are great, and I am glad you explained the tambourine-like instrument, I was wondering about that one.

Fascinating collection! Since my husband also does missionary work, now traveling abroad four or so times a year. We too have all those trinkets and souvenirs. I never thought of making them the subject of a blog. Great idea!

Those eggs were the first thing my eyes caught glimpse of as I viewed the very first photo. Now tho, I'm wondering what the reasoning is behind the 'no sugar' in the tea when there are a large group?!!

Your treasures from foreign lands are so dear. We have quite a few too. What great reminders they are for us to remember to pray for our missionaries.
I made the birdbath yesterday. I am excited for my birds to discover it. A Blue Jay ventured close to it this morning, but then was scared away.

The eggs are my favorite. When I was a kid I always thought that I was an adopted Egyptian princess. Don't ask me why, because I have no idea, except that I was fascinated by all things Egypt. Those are lovely.
