~A Trip Down Memory Lane~

Hello everyone! I thought I would share some pictures from my childhood with you today. You can click on any of the pictures to make them bigger.

This first picture is of me at 2 1/2 years old, with a head full of blonde hair.

It didn't stick around though, by first grade (or Grade 1 as they say in Canada!), I had long brown hair.

Actually, this dress is what started me looking through my old pictures in the first place. I was visiting my friend Revee this past Friday and her daughter was wearing a dress with possibly the same print as my Grade 1 dress. Revee, you'll have to tell me if you think it's the same!

I can still remember most of my classmates from Grade 1, even the boy who sucked his thumb all day long. It's funny the things you remember!

My teacher was Miss Becker and I thought she was the prettiest and nicest teacher ever. She once traded sandwiches with me because I didn't like my cheese and mayonnaise one. She lived in the only tall-rise apartment building in our small town and I still call it "Miss Becker's Apartment building" to this day!

I had the same classmates in second grade but my teacher wasn't as nice as Miss Becker. :0)
I wasn't the best student and my parents pulled me out halfway through second grade to homeschool me. Virtually unheard of in the 1980's!

By Grade 2 I had short hair, which I think suited me better!

Along with the pictures I found some crafts from long ago. I guess my love for birds started at a young age...here is one that I made when I was 5. It says "Kelli and Daddy" on the back so I think I had some help!

Evidently, I have always like anything to do with the 4 seasons too! These pictures have really faded over the years, sorry they are so hard to see!

Two little Valentine's from Grade 1.

Lastly, a Sunday School Graduation card from December 1981. I was 5 years old.

My mom was my teacher and it is signed by her and the pastor.

The inside says...

"If you listen to advise and are willing to learn, one day you will be wise, have reverence for the Lord, content and safe from harm. ~Proverbs 19:20, 2

Thank you for coming down memory lane with me!!

What fun! I had no idea that you were homeschooled!!! Did you remain a homeschool student for the remainder of your school years?? I'm chomping at the bit to know!

It's nice to wander down memory lane via old photos and other bits and pieces isn't it? It must be quite common for people's hair colour to change as they grow up, I, too,had blonde curls as a little girl but my hair was dark and straight by the time I was eleven.

It was a joy to share memory lane and to see all the many delightful photo's which you have kept over the years.

Equally delightful your fond memory of your teacher too - even exchanging sandwiches.

Thank you for sharing such a lovely "memory lane" outing with us.

Blessings to you all.

Wow! You are so blessed to still have such childhood treasures!Very cute pictures, too.
I think that it is wonderful that you were homeschooled. This must make your children feel special to be following in your footsteps.
Isn't it neat how we gain a love for certain things so early in life? Our personalities are formed so very young. Thanks for the stroll!

Kelli, there is a strong family resemblence in your children! I love that you were homeschooled! How great that you can school your children, now.
I also had blonde hair until I was six, and then it seems it changed to brown overnight!
I enjoyed this stroll down memory lane with you very much!
Blessings,
Karen

I'm a teacher and I loved your comment about your teacher being the prettiest and the nicest one ever. Oh, how we love our little ones!! I am sure you were easy to love.

And we have a bird lover in our house too. He is our youngest ~16 ~ and he has loved birds since he was a preschooler. He has drawn some lovely ones that I have hanging on my guest bath wall.

That was a fun post. I had to laugh when you said you were homeschooled in the 80's. I was homeschooling my kids in the 80's. Blogging is ageless!!

Have a great week.

Thanks for sharing. I always love to see what others looked like when they were younger.
I have fond memories of my Kindergarten and second grade teachers. For some weird reason I have a hard time remembering my 1st grade teacher. All I remember of 1st grade is stapling two of my fingers together.

Kelli, I enjoyed your post so much! I think it is so neat that you and your husband were homeschooled! I also think you are so fortunate to still have little bits of art from your childhood. I don't have many of my little things anymore, but I'm saving quite a few for my children. Thank you for sharing your trip down memory lane.

Marci -- you're right. That picture of Kelli on the tricycle when she was two looks exactly like our daughter Grace. As in, I used to show it to people when Grace was two, and until people realized it looked "old," they all thought it was really Grace.

There personalities amazingly similar as well, which doesn't bode well for Kelli as she homeschools. :-)
