Fussy Day Chicken

Sandra hosts a Slow Cooking Thursday each week and we happened to have a crockpot meal last night so I thought I would join in.

It's called Fussy Day Chicken because once it's in the crockpot you can forget about dinner while you tend to your fussy baby. Or fussy 7 year old. ;0)

Fussy Day Chicken

-1 whole chicken
-Barbecue Sauce:
1 cup tomato sauce
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup lemon juice
3 tablespoons chopped onion
2 tablespoons honey
3 shakes worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
dash of pepper
1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Combine all sauce ingredients in a saucepan. Stir over medium-low heat until well blended. This sauce may seem spicy when tasted before use, but it is not as spicy on the meat.

Put chicken, legs up, into slow cooker. Pour barbecue sauce over and inside chicken. Cook 8-10 hours on low.

The meat falls easily from bones and sauce makes gravy for rice or potatoes. All that's left is to fix a salad!

For more crockpot recipes be sure to visit Sandra at her place, Diary of a SAHM!

Also, for those of you who asked, my Show and Tell will be a weekly feature so be looking through your treasures for something to share tomorrow!

**I finally bought bananas and we are going to make those cookies this weekend. I wanted to do it last week, but the day I was going to get the groceries is when the kids got sick :(

That looks wonderful. My only problem is that we raise our own broilers and they are huge. They don't fit very well into a crock pot. I have thought of cutting them in half before I freeze them.

Your recipe inspired me to pull out my crockpot after a few years of storage and I'm really glad I did! My family loved this chicken so much - it will definitely be a regular on our menu. I was out of a few things (lemon juice & a spice or two) but it still came out great. Thank you - love your blog :)

I first found the recipe for Fussy Day Chicken back when my daughter was a baby. She's now 29! The recipe was in a cookbook put out by the La Leche League. I haven't made the chicken in quite a few years and I no longer have that cookbook so googled to see if I could find it. That led me to your site. Thank you for enabling me to once again make this declicious dish!

I saw the above comment and can relate to it so much! I first found this recipe the same way, only my daughter will be 42 in 2 weeks! I no longer have that cookbook either, unfortunately. I was happy to find the recipe here, and plan on making it this week. (what did we ever do before Google???)
Thank you for sharing the recipe and making it possible for me to once again make this delicious dish.
