"Show and Tell Friday"

Welcome to Show and Tell Friday!" Do you have a something special to share with us? It could be a trinket from grade school, a piece of jewelry, an antique find. Your show and tell can be old or new. Use your imagination and dig through those old boxes in your closet if you have to! Feel free to share pictures and if there's a story behind your special something, that's even better!

My show and tell this week is this crystal bowl, which was a wedding gift from my Grandma. My Grandparents have always been very careful with their money, and so receiving this Mikasa bowl was a special surprise.

For years I thought the beautiful pattern etched on the bottom was of grapes and leaves, but after looking more closely, I'm thinking it is some kind of flower.

I just don't know what kind!

I don't get the bowl out very often, but when I do, I like to use it as a centerpiece on my kitchen table.
Today, I have used lemons and sprigs of tiny pink flowers.

Thank you for looking at my show and tell!

Beautiful!! I cant figure out what kind of flower it is either, it looks like an Asian type of flower maybe???

Kelli you have such an eye for beauty! I love how you decorated your bowl, simple yet elegant and romantic! I love it!

I'm off to bed now since little one will probably be waking all night again! :-(

Do you know, I think I received a very similar etched bowl for my wedding, too! I should really get mine out and use it more often!

And how special that your grandmother gave it to you!

I am participating for the first time this week! :)

That's really beautiful. The flowers remind me of the plumeria I saw in Hawaii.

I love the bowl! Very elegant, and beautiful! I can't tell either what it is, flowers or leaves ...
No matter..not knowing does not take away from the beauty!

Your bowl is so pretty. You are always so creative. I love the lemons and sprigs of flower in your bowl.

I have a Mikasa bowl similar to that. We received as a wedding gift.

What a beautiful treasure!

This reminds me of a bowl that my Granny gave me on my wedding day. It was a wedding present given to her parents on their wedding day (which also happened to be the 2nd Saturday in Novemeber 81 years prior to my day).

I do think your bowl has some kind of flower etched on it, although I don't know what it is. Either way, it's beautiful! I know you will cherish it for many years to come, maybe even passing it on to your grand-daughter one day :o)

Have a blessed Friday Kelli!

I think the flower may be Geranium. The leaves look like a Geranium. What a great display you made

Oh, my goodness! I think that my husband's great aunt and uncle gave us a 4 piece dinner set that matches this. I'll have to take them out and snap a few shots for you. We'll see... Wouldn't that be a riot??? Give me a few days.

Beautiful! What a treasure! I also LOVED your homeschool open house post. I plan to do it myself, once I unpack our schoolroom. (We had to move the room because of a remodeling project and our summer has been too bust to get things back in order just yet!)

Kelli ~ I love Mikasa pieces. My dear hubby gave me a full set of Mikasa casual china for my 18th birthday (which he had shipped from Mississippi where he was serving in the Air Force). My father did get tickled, and asked if I thought maybe that boy was serious ~ lol. He was! ;o)

Kelli, you should email your pictures to this site to see if they can identify it for you. Mikasa really is a broad spectrum because you have the high-priced upscale, the high price casual and the low price upscale. I bet they could tell you the name of the pattern so you could have it for memory value and then if you wanted to purchase pieces to give to your girls for their own weddings.

OOO, let me know what you find out if you email them.
:) Can you tell I like glassware!

Had I written the song "Favorite Things" for the musical, Sound of Music, lemons and lavender would have been in the lyrics. What a beautiful presentation and the bowl is lovely!
