"Show and Tell Friday!"

Welcome to “Show and Tell Friday!” Do you have something special to share with us? It could be a trinket from grade school, a piece of jewelry, or a treasured collection. Look around your home for something to share; dig through those boxes in your closet if you have to! Share photos and the story that goes with your special item.

The resale store was calling my name yesterday and I'm glad I listened. ;0) Here are a few things that I found...
Wreath
A new spring wreath for my front door. Cost: $3.09.

Wreath
The green leaves and pink berries are perfect for spring.

Wreath
I added the bow when we got home.

Napkins
Four blue toile napkins. Cost: $2.09

Napkins
A romantic scene.

Linens
I also found this unopened box of 4 placemats and 4 napkins.

Napkins
They were $8.00, which I more than I usually pay for something at the resale store, but it is Irish linen and I plan on embroidering little shamrocks in the corners.

Napkins
I'm not sure how to care for the fabric though. Can I wash them in the machine? Cold or hot water? Can I iron them?

Plate
And lastly, I spotted a box with this tiny lettuce bunny plate. I opened it up and found...

Teaset
a mini tea set! Cost: $1.50.

Tea pot

We'll have to invite the bunny fairies over for tea!

Thank you for looking at my show and tell!

Show and Tell Guidelines

What is Show and Tell Friday?
Show and Tell involves showing something to an audience, and then telling them about it. Your show and tell must be something that you own, and is in your home or garden.

What items work well for Show and Tell Friday?
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
-Family heirlooms
-A collection you may have
-A piece of jewelry
-A special gift
-Gardening pictures

What doesn't work well for Show and Tell Friday?
-Posts with no photos have no "Show." Please don't use them.
-Photos of events (trips, vacations, celebrations, etc.)
-Photos of things you are selling or planning to sell.
-Photos found on the internet, graphics or screenshots. Please use photos you take yourself.
-Photos of just people instead of things.

There is no place like home is the original home of Show and Tell Friday. Please do not host your own. Also, do not put an additional Show and Tell Mr. Linky in your post.

How can I participate?
Once you've got your photo(s) and your story, it's easy as 1-2-3!

1 - Publish your "Show and Tell" on your blog, including a link back to There is No Place Like Home. Go HERE for the "Show and Tell" picture code to copy and paste into your post.

2 - Copy the link (or "permalink") from your post.

3 - Add it to Mr. Linky, along with your first name only. (This will make the list easier to read.) I usually put Mr. Linky up on Friday at 12:00am Eastern time.

*If your name has been removed from Mr. Linky, please read over the guidelines before re-posting.

Love the bunny tea set!

All I know about linen is that it gets really wrinkled really easily.

What wonderful treasures you found--love the little bunny set--and I can not wait to see the little Shamrocks when you finish them--I will ask my Grandma about the care for the linens---I am sure she will know:)

love the spring wreath and especially the cute tea set. I don't know anything about caring for linen. how old do you think that is?

What great treasures you found today! I love the wreath, it is so pretty. I have the exact same bunny tea set! My mother bought it for me, I think it is so cute! Your linens are pretty too, I can't wait to see the shamrocks in the corner. I wish I could help you on the care of them, I would think hand wash in cold and iron carefully!

Hugs, Sharon

What wonderful bargains, especially the little bunny teaset. With linen, I used to put it through the washing machine on a 40 degree wash, but it will need ironing damp as the creases are devils to get out. If it has dried completely, then put a damp cloth over the top and steam iron through.

Loved that wreath too - such pretty colours.

Here's a link for washing linen. They suggest a cool wash - handwashing if you like. My linen tablecloths have always dried over the Betty Maid hanger in the kitchen, so they're not pegged at all. They suggest drying flat if possible.

The bunny tea set is so cute ! and linnen is linnen, irish or whatever. I wash linnen in my machine at 40°C it comes out clean and then you have to iron it of course.

Susan said...

You always find the cutest things. You can machine wash the linen in cool water and you will HAVE to iron it!!!!

I love the wreath! That is so pretty and springy. Looks like both of us made out like bandits at the thrift store yesterday!

As for linen napkins. I hand wash, line dry and then iron with some spray starch. It does wrinkle easy, but is very easy to press.

Blessings

What lovely finds, Kelli! I can see I don't frequent the right resale shops! Thank you for sharing.. and hosting.

I love the bunny set. Those were great finds.

I wash my linens in lukewarm water and hang out to dry. If you iron it before it is completely dry it seems to be easier to handle. I also use a little spray starch or sizing when I iron it. Good luck.

Wow, lots of comments.......I didn't read through them, so please disregard if you've already had your questions about linen answered. I inherited my mom's linen, and some of it had very similar packaging as yours. I've always saved the linen for "company" because it does wrinkle, but we do use it. I wash it in the machine, and I do use hot water on the white linen. I've even (gasp) used some bleach when necessary. Linen does need to be ironed, though.

You had lots of terrific finds at the resale store this week!

Hi! I just discovered your blog from Country Charm. What a nice place to visit you have here!

You have made some great finds at your resale store. I love that wreath, but wreaths are a real weakness of mine anyway.

I just had some time and peeked at your post about making cards and envelopes from old calendars. That is a great idea, and thanks for the instructions. I am going to be on the lookout as I really want to try this.

I'll be back for a nice long look soon.

Kelli,

All of your bargains are beautiful. I found a site that will tell you how to care for Irish Linen.

http://www.irishlinen.co.uk/washandcare/

Hope this helps. I wasn't able to post a show and tell this week. I have my daughter recuperating from surgery and I watched my great-nephew while my niece went to a funeral. I hope to be back in the swing of things next week. I don't like missing show and tell. Now I'm off to see what others showed and told about. ;-)

Blessings,
Mary

You did great. I have the toile napkins. Mine came from Dillards on sale. Not the cheap though lol.

Gena said...

I love all of your goodies, particularly the napkins. I have such a love of all things toile.

Yes, I have washed and dried linen. But, I think it is better to wash, hang or lay flat to dry and iron while damp. You can also starch it. Linen just gets better and better with age. It is an incredibly strong fabric.

Woo Hoo, I am going to be the 78th commenter on this post. Wow!

You were so, so fortunate to find that little bunny tea set at such a great price. I love re-sale (or thrift shops, as we call them here, or charity shops in England).

I and my sister usually go to the Bismarck ones every other weekend, because those are the days when my sister, a nurse, has off. We,too, have found some really great treasures. We're going tomorrow and it will be 54 degrees in Bismarck!! I can't wait.
