"Show and Tell Friday"

Welcome to Show and Tell Friday!" Do you have a something special to share with us? It could be a trinket from grade school, a piece of jewelry, an antique find. Your show and tell can be old or new. Use your imagination and dig through those old boxes in your closet if you have to! Feel free to share pictures and if there's a story behind your special something, that's even better!

This past weekend we went to a used books store where I found this set of 9 books, written by one of my favorite authors, Beatrix Potter! They were published in 1967 and are in great shape.

There is a copy of The Story of the Fierce Bad Rabbit which I had never read before. Have you read it? It's hilarious!

There are lots of pictures in each book.

We also took a trip to the library and I borrowed Aunt Bee's Mealtime in Mayberry Cookbook that had a recipe for Roly-Poly Pudding. This of course reminded me of the Beatrix Potter story that has the same name! As you know I can't go more that a few days without sharing a recipe so here it is. :0)

Roly-Poly Pudding

Biscuit Dough:
2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup shortening
2/3 cup milk

Sift together the dry ingredients in a medium bowl; then cut in the shortening and blend with a pastry blender. Add the milk a little at a time while stirring with a fork. When the dough is of a consistency that can be readily handled, it's ready to roll.

1/4 cup softened butter, divided
3 cups cored, peeled, and finely chopped apples
1/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 cup water
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 teaspoons lemon zest (I left this out)

Prepare the biscuit dough and roll into an 8 x 12 rectangle (mine was a bit bigger). Spread 1 tablespoon of the butter over the dough. Cover the dough with the apples to within about 1 inch of the edge. In a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over apples.

Roll up the pastry and apples like a jelly roll. Slice into pieces, 1 inch thick. Preheat the oven to 425.F (My oven is extra hot, so 400F worked fine.) Boil the granulated sugar, water, lemon juice, zest, and 2 tablespoons of the butter, and pour the dissolved mixture into a shallow baking dish. Place the rolled pieces in the water-sugar mixture. (This seemed weird to me, but the liquid thickens up into a nice sauce during baking).

Top the slices with remaining butter. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Serve hot, topped with cream.

Thank you for looking at my Show and Tell!

Good morning America!

Kelli that book collection looks very interesting, I wish I could have a closer look at the photos. (Unfortunately, I've never heard of Beatrix Potter before.)

Your cooking and recipe looks delicious, as always!

I posted an update from my garden for today's show and tell with some new decorations I found the other day.

Have a wonderful day!

Best wishes from Germany,

Hi Kelli! Sorry I haven't been around much, too much work. I missed the apron giveaway! Maybe next time I'll be able to enter. Your recipe looks so delicious. I love to come here on Fridays to see your show and tell, and these books are so interesting, my kids have some books by Beatrix Potter, that their grandma gave them when my first one was born, they cherish them so much, since this "grandma", is actually my host mom when I was an exchange student to the US and they only got to see her a couple of times. Have a great weekend!
