"Show and Tell Friday!"
Welcome to “Show and Tell Friday!” Do you have something special to share with us? It could be a trinket from grade school, a piece of jewelry, or a treasured collection. Look around your home for something to share; dig through those boxes in your closet if you have to! Share photos and the story that goes with your special item.
Hello everyone! Today I'm going to share some of my old books. I love everything about old books, especially how they feel and smell. I got these first two at a yard sale for 50 cents each.
A 1913 edition of Little Men by Louisa May Alcott.
I love the little scenes on the front cover.
It was a gift to Danny, from Joe Buckles in 1961.
This 1920 edition of Old Granny Fox by Thornton W. Burgess isn't in the best shape, but we will still enjoy reading the story.
Unfortunately, the illustrations have been ripped out, but the inside cover shows a very busy day at the pond.
The last book I have to show you is this 1906 edition of New Testament Primer by J.W. White. It was a birthday gift from my mother-in-law this past February.
It goes through the alphabet, sharing a bible verse for each letter.
It is filled with stories and sweet pictures.
Short lessons are also included: Slate Exercise and Writing Lesson.
Drawing and Stick Laying.
Thank you for looking at my show and tell!

Nice books. Amazing that 1961 seems at once such a long time ago, and for some of us, just yesterday!
Wow, more yard sale finds! I can hardly believe that people sell those precious antique books for almost nothing!!! (Bad for them - good for you!!!)
The last one seems to be very interesting indeed (I wish I could hold it in my hands, too).
Have a great Friday Kelli and good night (we have just gotten up here in Germany and start a new day!)
XoX, Anita
What a wonderful collection of vintage books! Little Men for 50 cents, what a great bargain!!
Katherine
I love old books as well... the pages seem so much thicker... and they do smell good lol. I am always sniffing my old books when I open them lol, musty/old/dirt smelling books. I recently got some books from 1895. 50 cents each!! I got old school books & readers and the like. I think I'll have to show mine off as well as they truely are treasures. But alas... I use mine in my art so I tend to rip out pages...gasp, I know!! bad girlie!! I didn't "permalink" this time, but I PROMISE I will permanlink next time ok? I just got so excited to post--- weird I know! bye for now, Cheryl :-)
Kelli,
Interesting collection of old books....that's one of my hobbies also.....Betty
I love old books, especially old recipe books. One "old" book I hold dear is my first grade reader (circa 1964) Dick and Jane! Man, those were the days of Spot and Puff. Now they have brought back the old readers for our children.
I love all your books! They are fabulous. I am a vintage book freak! You have some awesome ones here! I think I have a primer very similar to the one you showed, but I think mine is not quite as old as yours.
Have a happy weekend Kelli!
Hugs, Sharon
Your books are so precious! I'm going to have to start keeping an eye out for books like these. They are so special!!
I love the artwork on old books.
So much time and sincerity went
to publishing "Great Books" to
make them last for decades. I am
glad you found them at such a great
price. Enjoy them!
Some more great garage sale finds! I would love to have the Little Men book since I have "little men" at my house. :) Thanks for sharing!
Hi Kelli, I love vintage books too. These are wonderful, I love the art work and the decorated covers too. I especially like the primer.....a treasure of a gift. Have a happy day. Linda
Old books are the best. I have a first edition Charles Dickens "The Story of Our Lord". I'd love to find more!
i love old books, too. although i love the feel and smell, i think it's the history that gets to me, thinking of where the book has been and who all has read it.
i have a question for you... where do you keep all of this? do you keep a lot in storage? or is it all out and displayed? just wondering. happy friday.
Hi Kelli, I love vintage books too.... Old books are the best, this reminds me the saying, "The pleasure of reading is doubled when one lives with another
who shares the same books" ... mine's up too hope you can drop by.
I love old books! I'll have to show some of mine some Friday!
The fancy work on the book covers is so neat, I wonder why they don't do that anymore. I think it adds character to the book. You come up with the greatest finds. I went to the local library today with a friend and she commented on enjoying the smell of the old books like other people here on S&T this week.
What beautiful books Kelli. You can always tell what people are like by the prices they put on books - if they give them away, they don't value books at all!
Absolutely love the old books! I have some too. Don't you love the sweet messages written in some of them? And the covers are often so beautiful. Your collection is very special! Kathy@ Mimi's Garden
What a coincidence! Before reading your post, I had already decided to show one of my favorite children's books!
I love old books too! I love the one you have with the alphabet and a verse for each letter. I have never seen one like that. They are all so pretty.
LOVE the New Testament Primer. I enjoy old books too. I have a copy of The Little Colonel that looks almost identical to your Little Men, but it is red.
Be blessed.
Jennifer
Lovely old books. We have a few around here too. My favorite is Pride and Prejudice from a dear friend.
thanks for show & tell!
blessings
I too have a love affair with old prints of books. They DO have a special aura, don't they? Wow, I think the Alphabet Bible reader would be a super gift...your M I L did well selecting that one!!!
My Bargains for the week are shown this week. Do drop by if you can.
Happy Friday, happy weekend.
Great books. I love old cookbooks. They have some strange ingredients that are hard to come by. Have a great weekend
I *love* books too! I especially love old books and the smell they have. My ex-husband would always look at me odd if I got an older book from the library that had that smell and I sniffed it, but I didn't care! LOL
what a special book...wish you a happy weekend1
Kisses from Germany Barbara
I love old books as well. They are treasures. Have a great weekend.
Jenn
I love your old books! Expecially the New Testament Primer! I wasn't organized enough this week to do a show and tell :( Hopefully I can get in on the fun next week!
Blessings
Linda
I love books too new and old. What amazing finds you have. I wish I could go garage saling with you! I got my post up too. Come over and see me. Have a Blessed day. I bet your out driving the streets looking for more fun things. Don't you love homeschooling! Such flexibility. And you know garage saleing is a math lesson and geography too!
Nice books ! I don't know any of them besides the bible of course.
Kelli,
I love old books too. Your books are lovely. You can't get much better than Louisa May Alcott! And the Bible verses book must be such a delight and blessing to read.
Again Kelli - such amazing treasures. I love the ABC primer with the verses! I'm sure that would be really neat!
You know how much I love the old books. What a wonderful idea in the Primer using a bible verse for every letter. Thanks for sharing all 3 of them.
Susan
Kelli,
Sorry, I didn't post the correct linky for my Show and Tell. I didn't realize it should be the link for the specific post. I thought it was just the blog link. Please feel free to change it, if you like. The true link should be

I look forward to your show and tell on Friday. I hope soon things will settle down so I can join in on the fun. It is such fun to go to yard sales and find that special treasure like you did.
Oh, I'm a sucker for old books. Thanks for sharing! They're beautiful.
I love old books too - especially ones with salutations written inside. What a great collection you have.
What a nice collection. I love old books too. You got some good deals. Good for you, Kelli!
Have a wonderful weekend, Kathi
These old books are so interesting. I wish some things hadn't changed over the years, like learning the Bible in school (or at least allowing it there.) For years I have wanted to find a copy of the little soft back red book called Dick & Jane like I learned to read in the first grade. I've never found one.
Nice Books!
I think the primer is my favorite!
(how's you weather in that area of Texas?...this part of Texas got lot's of rain, hail and high winds last night...kinda grabbed my attention at 4 a.m.)
Good morning Kelli, I love your collection of old books..I like to smell new and old books..My collection of dishes from Japan...is on my post for today..
Books are such a treasure! These are so neat. As a homeschool mom, I especially like the primer.
Kelli---I just love old books and my very favorite are the ones that have writing in them--it makes me just think about who owned it, are they grown--are they old---and why did they give the book up, kwim? What a great show and tell--I am not playing this week--but I still try and visit :) Have a super weekend, my spring break starts at exactly 2:43 this afternoon...LOL
Julieann

I posted one of my old books on my S&T Friday too :) Its copyright 1900.
Very neat collection you have!
How wonderful. I love your Testament Primer. Thank you for sharing.
Very cool! I love Little Men and Jo's Boys. My copies are from the 50's, and have such neat illustrations. Great collection, and even better the price on those.
What beautiful books and your pictures highlight that. Great idea doing show and tell. Will look into joining in.
I love old books as well! You have a great collection! The author's name, Burgess, rang a bell... I looked and he is the author of some of my favorite books as a child - the animal stories. I have several cheap paperbacks. :)
Those are really nice. I especially like the old schoolbooks. Imagine that at one time the schools used Bible verses to illustrate the alphabet.
I wish it were still that way.Kelli, I could not find my permalink today. It just didn't show. ????
Nancy
Kelli, these books are beautiful!! What treasures!!! You have the ability to find the neatest things!!!

I also love beautifully printed old books. The New Testament Primer must be very nice to read.
Good afternoon Kelli...sorry so late, but I finally posted my Show and Tell for this week.
Your books are great. I love old books also. They seem to be getting harder to find here.
Hi Kelli,
I really enjoyed seeing some of your old books. Very interesting. Thank you for showing those to us.
My post is up and ready for viewing.
Yikes, 1961 was the year I was born. I must be getting "old" too.(lol) I love your books I too have a few old books from my mother that I cherish.
Thorton Burgess brings back memories ; when I was in kidnergarten (sp???) I visited is place and he signed a book for me. We looked at the brook that inspired him and the wood area etc.
Beautiful. I love old books as well, just wish I had a few more.
God bless.
I know what you mean about the "smell" of the books. This is something I like too.
Great yard sale finds! I must get back into the yard sale groove! :)
Hi Kelli, Thanks for coming over and visiting me. FYI I have tackled that horrible front porch and hopefully by Friday it will be the Show and Tell. It is coming along nicely. Have a great weekedend. Are you going to be digging in the dirt?
My name was removed from Mr. Linky. How sad. :(
Your name was removed from Mr. Linky because of the Etsy earring in your post. You can find more information in the show and tell guidelines if you are interested.
