"Show and Tell Friday!"

Welcome to “Show and Tell Friday!” Do you have something special to share with us? It could be a trinket from grade school, a piece of jewelry, or a treasured collection. Look around your home for something to share; dig through those boxes in your closet if you have to! Share photos and the story that goes with your special item.

Books
Hello everyone! Today I'm going to share some of my old books. I love everything about old books, especially how they feel and smell. I got these first two at a yard sale for 50 cents each.

Book
A 1913 edition of Little Men by Louisa May Alcott.

IMG_1136.JPG
I love the little scenes on the front cover.

Book
It was a gift to Danny, from Joe Buckles in 1961.

Book
This 1920 edition of Old Granny Fox by Thornton W. Burgess isn't in the best shape, but we will still enjoy reading the story.

Book
Unfortunately, the illustrations have been ripped out, but the inside cover shows a very busy day at the pond.

Book
The last book I have to show you is this 1906 edition of New Testament Primer by J.W. White. It was a birthday gift from my mother-in-law this past February.

Book
It goes through the alphabet, sharing a bible verse for each letter.

IMG_1160.JPG
It is filled with stories and sweet pictures.

Book

Book
Short lessons are also included: Slate Exercise and Writing Lesson.

Book
Drawing and Stick Laying.

Thank you for looking at my show and tell!

Nice books. Amazing that 1961 seems at once such a long time ago, and for some of us, just yesterday!

Wow, more yard sale finds! I can hardly believe that people sell those precious antique books for almost nothing!!! (Bad for them - good for you!!!)

The last one seems to be very interesting indeed (I wish I could hold it in my hands, too).

Have a great Friday Kelli and good night (we have just gotten up here in Germany and start a new day!)

I love old books, especially old recipe books. One "old" book I hold dear is my first grade reader (circa 1964) Dick and Jane! Man, those were the days of Spot and Puff. Now they have brought back the old readers for our children.

I love all your books! They are fabulous. I am a vintage book freak! You have some awesome ones here! I think I have a primer very similar to the one you showed, but I think mine is not quite as old as yours.

Have a happy weekend Kelli!

I love the artwork on old books.
So much time and sincerity went
to publishing "Great Books" to
make them last for decades. I am
glad you found them at such a great
price. Enjoy them!

i love old books, too. although i love the feel and smell, i think it's the history that gets to me, thinking of where the book has been and who all has read it.

i have a question for you... where do you keep all of this? do you keep a lot in storage? or is it all out and displayed? just wondering. happy friday.

Hi Kelli, I love vintage books too.... Old books are the best, this reminds me the saying, "The pleasure of reading is doubled when one lives with another
who shares the same books" ... mine's up too hope you can drop by.

I love old books! I'll have to show some of mine some Friday!

The fancy work on the book covers is so neat, I wonder why they don't do that anymore. I think it adds character to the book. You come up with the greatest finds. I went to the local library today with a friend and she commented on enjoying the smell of the old books like other people here on S&T this week.

What beautiful books Kelli. You can always tell what people are like by the prices they put on books - if they give them away, they don't value books at all!

Kathy said...

Absolutely love the old books! I have some too. Don't you love the sweet messages written in some of them? And the covers are often so beautiful. Your collection is very special! Kathy@ Mimi's Garden

I *love* books too! I especially love old books and the smell they have. My ex-husband would always look at me odd if I got an older book from the library that had that smell and I sniffed it, but I didn't care! LOL

These old books are so interesting. I wish some things hadn't changed over the years, like learning the Bible in school (or at least allowing it there.) For years I have wanted to find a copy of the little soft back red book called Dick & Jane like I learned to read in the first grade. I've never found one.

Nice Books!
I think the primer is my favorite!

(how's you weather in that area of Texas?...this part of Texas got lot's of rain, hail and high winds last night...kinda grabbed my attention at 4 a.m.)
