"Show and Tell Friday"

Welcome to Show and Tell Friday!" Do you have something special to share with us? It could be a trinket from grade school, a piece of jewelry, an antique find. Your show and tell can be old or new. Use your imagination and dig through those old boxes in your closet if you have to! Share photos and if there's a story behind your special something, that's even better!

I have two childhood outfits to share with you today.

Back in 1978 when I was 2 years old, my Uncle Harry and Aunt Betty went to visit Scotland and they brought back this outfit for me.

A small kilt and white satin blouse.

A kilt pin.

Lace on the end of the sleeve.

Lace ruffles on the front of the blouse. Does anyone know the exact name of this?

Here I am in September of 1978. The baby is my sister, Jenny.

This next outfit is a dress, made for me by my Great Grandmother back in 1980. She must have been quite old, but still able to sew well.

A sweet starry sky fabric.

A few hand sewn stitches.

Delicate lace on the front of the dress.

Three tiny buttons on the back.

This photo was taken in 1981, when I was 5. In addition to a sister, I now had a baby brother!

Thank you for looking at my show and tell!

The Show and Tell Guidelines have changed. Please read them before participating!!

Kelli, I am impressed, you still have those cute cloths of your childhood!

Did your girls wear them too when they were little? And do you still keep some of the baby outfits of your kids, too?

Have a wonderful and not too hot Friday! Over here, it's cloudy but I hope we will get more sunshine this week-end!

Kelli, forgot to mention the answer to your question about the frill or ruffle on the blouse. It is called a jabot.

Wow, this is eerie!! Just the other day I was thinking about my 'kilt' style skirt!!! Mine was red beige and off white coloration...it was wool, and the huge safety pin was gold! I wore it every time the cleaners finished cleaning it and dad brought it home!! I loved that skirt!!!

Great show and tell!! Mine's posted too. About an 'antique' keyboard of mine!!!

I love the kilt!!! What a special thing to have. The lovely dress your grandmother made for you is a real treasure. Thanks for shaving them both. I also loved the pictures of you wearing the outfits.

It is so neat you still have them and pictures of you wearing it too.

I believe it's called a Jabot blouse. It's SO cute, the whole outfit!

I didn't get mine up, I still can't find the wire to connect the camera to my laptop. I have another idea, but there are no pictures involved, just links and I don't know if that's allowed.

Oh, be careful around Bloggy Land, there's a virus going around.

God Bless,
Amber

How sweet, Kelli! I had to skim through 46 comments to make sure your question hasn't been answered already. The lace thing at the neck of the blouse is a 'jabot'.

My first child was 2 years old in 1978, too (-:

Adorable dresses.

My favorite dress was my Christmas party ensemble I got when I was 9 or 10: White silky blouse with ruffles, a Christmas-y plaid (red, green, black) ankle-length skirt, and black patent leather shoes. I wish I still had the outfit.

Really cute outfits-I especially love the kilt. You were the cutest little model. How neat to still have these special dresses from your childhood.

Oh, how precious! I love them both and the pictures of you as a little girl wearing them! I was looking back over a few of your posts (since I've missed soooo much), and just had a good giggle at the picture of the lego covered floor. We've had this scenario at our house numerous times. So much fun until you have to pick them back up! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I love those precious dresses! I'm sure they are such treasures for you that bring back great memories of when you were younger.

The blue dress reminds me of one that I had as a child. I used to love dressing up on Sundays, tights and all, with my Sam and Libby shoes on!

Darling outfits! Wonderful that you (and your mother) kept them all these years, and in these days of throw-away everything. I hope others will learn from this and keep some of their children's clothes (and toys, etc.!) I wish I had kept some!

I am blown away by the fact that you have been able to keep these little dresses from your childhood in such great condition! I remember having a tartan skirt when I was about 10 years old (1958). I loved that skirt and wore it for years, until it just didn't fit me anymore!

My first visit and I am impressed. Wow. So much nice stuff here.

Can you believe you actually used to wear something so small?...even more unfathomable is to wonder can your children imagine that you were ever so small?!!

I don't know if I am the only one to think this but that blue dress reminds me so much of the blue dresses that Ma made for Laura and Mary in that Little House episode. One of my favorites!

Kelli,
What a precious outfit from Scotland...my husband's forefathers came from Scotland.

The dress made by your great-great grandmother is a wonder heirloom....
