Christmas Decorating

Hello everyone! Thank you for your sweet comments on my fireplace makeover and sugar cookie adventure. The girls and I took the cookies to church on Saturday and we had three other helpers to decorate. They looked very festive and everyone had lots of fun.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've been doing a little Christmas decorating in my kitchen lately. I call this hutch my "pie safe." I found it at a resale store a few years ago and repainted it, changed the knobs, and put lace on the shelf edges. To help with the vintage look, Phillip took out the glass cupboard doors and replaced them with screens.
Piesafe
I usually keep a cake plate and various tea dishes on it, but wanted to give it more of a Christmas look.
Fabric
I measured the back of the hutch and cut a piece of plaid fabric with pinking shears.
Backing
I attached it with double sided tape and a couple a thumbtacks (way up high where the holes won't show)
Cakeplate
Next, I layed down this shimmery gold fabric and placed my cake plate in the right corner.
Candles
Candles in the left corner.
Tin
A cookie tin that happens to be the same print as the fabric! (I got the fabric at Walmart this year, but the tin at a resale store a few years ago.) I also placed a small doily on top of the tin.
Book
A Christmas book.
Teaset
I found this cream and gold trim tea set (along with 8 tea cups and saucers) at a yardsale a few months ago.
Piesafe
All ready for a cup of Christmas tea. Thank you for looking at my newly decorating pie safe!
On Christmas Day
At half past three
make your self a cup of tea
I'll think of you
You think of me
underneath the Christmas tree.
Ooh, a tartan tin! If you've read the fifth Harry Potter book, you'll want to fill it with Ginger Newts!
Oh, how beautiful and homey! I'm still working on decorating my kitchen for Christmas. I have some of the stuff up, but had to buy a new garland, and am not happy with it, so I need to figure something out to go with it.....as soon as I'm done with the kitchen I'll post pictures of the WHOLE house on my blog :)
Blessings!
Kelli, that's great! Nita and I were looking at our kitchen today and the only thing we have in there are Christmas dish towels. You have given me some hope. I'm going down to look at Christmas fabric from "yesteryear", in the storage area of the basement. thanks for sharing your creativity......Nancy
Your pie safe looks very festive, you have so much imagination. Soinds as though you were busy with the cookies, they look beautiful. They aren't a traditional thing in UK as they are in the US, here it's Christmas cake and mince pies that are the traditional things.
What a lovely festive touch for your kitchen Kelli! you really have 'the touch'! Isn't is fun when new and old come together in perfect harmony?
I have given up on any more decorating and am putting away the rest of the 'stuff'! Why did I take it all out of the bins??? I am either ambitious or a fool! We did get the tree decorated - armchair directions from me! The mantle is pretty and our fresh wreaths welcome anyone who might visit (though if they heard the 'tone' I was using yesterday, they might have chosen the wiser path and turned around at the door!). But that's all for this year - I am packing it in - healing is taking more out of me than I had thought. We will enjoy the simplicty of a quiet family Christmas and thing will be different next year, I'm sure!
