Weekend Chit~Chat

We've had a busy weekend so far. We've been cleaning and organizing our garage for the past few weekends and after spending a couple of hours out there today, we are almost finished.

Afterwards, we packed a picnic lunch and headed to our local nature preserve.

It was a beautiful spring day and the girls and Benjamin enjoyed exploring the creek.

Coming out the other side.

I thought I would give you an update on the Mourning Dove family that lives on our back patio...

Tuesday~The babies are getting bigger everyday.

Thursday~Mom is leaving the nest for longer periods of time.

Thursday~Maybe because she is running out of room!

Saturday~"I want to learn how to fly!"

With one baby in the nest patiently waiting for his flying lesson...

The other baby has had his lesson and is enjoying the evening sunset with mom.

I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend!

Thank you for these cool photos. I don't know if this is the case in Texas, but ND has a mourning dove hunting season. Can you imagine? Well, maybe you can, but I can't. These beautiful, melodic and, to me, melancholy birds hurt no one, as far as I know. I did not grow up in the south, so I don't know mockingbirds. But to me, it is a SIN to kill a mourning dove.

A clean and organized garage will be nice. For a trip to that Nature Preserve I would clean your garage. Weather in Ohio is in the mid 40's today. We had wonderful weather last weekend (mid 60's) Hey, thats great for us Ohioans this time of year. I have to say especially after seeing your trip to the preserve pictures. I"M READY FOR WARM WEATHER. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Hi Kelli,
What a wonderful place for a picnic on a pretty spring day. We're enjoying really lovely weather too!
Loved seeing the doves:)

Nice photos of the creek. My children love to get in those and wade.

I was wondering if you are bothered by the cooing of the doves? or is that pigeons? *blush*

Ah-Ha! It's a dove that sits in my cedar tree! If you have a over to my blog and take a look. She looks just like your dove. I'm bad on my bird identification!

That creek looks so much fun! Tonight it's suppose to get down to freezing or below. Maybe this will be our final "frost" here in in this part of Texas.

I love those photos. The pics of your babies with a bird's eye view. And the pics of the bird babies with a human eye view. Very neat.

I love watching birds grow like that. My dad is building us some bird houses now. Our Spring Break is over and things are going to get busy for me in the next couple of months....I dont yearn for spring to go by fast...but looking forward to long summer days.

Oooooh. They are getting big too fast. It won't be long before the fly the coop. I imagine the nest is getting a little crowded.

The hike looked like fun. There is nothing quite like a boy in a creek.

Oh, how I enjoyed this post! And I'm with Julie- I think it's just awful to kill doves or any bird, for that matter!

We had a neighbor who gave their little boy, about age 9, a BBgun- and encouraged him (or at least, did not stop it) in shooting birds!
Made me very sad to know this...for the child and the birds.

I am so glad you are having a wonderful weekend Kelli! We are hosting a bad flu bug - just the boys so far, but it is keeping us close to home and is a perfect waste of an otherwise good weekend! It is cooler and rainy here, but should warm up next week!

The Nature Preserve must be a beautiful place. I've never seen the baby doves before. So glad you were able to photograph them.

What good documentation on the doves! I especially loved the picture of the two doves on the fence. And I am glad that it is warm enough for you all in Texas to go to a nature preserve. It is cold here again. Such is spring in Indiana. Have a great weekend!

Liked the pictures of your doves. I'm surprised that you got Momma Dove to stay put long enough for you to shoot a picture of her. Aren't your worried about fleas. One time when my children were young, we had birds put a nest in our garage and it was right over their toy box which I had out in the garage for the summer. Next thing I knew my kids kept scratching their head and i checked and found lice. So I put them in the shower and they washed off. Bird lice doesn't live on humans (Thank God). So I didn't let my kids play with those toys until the birds left and then I knocked down the nest and used Clorox Bleach on the toys, toybox and throughout the garage to make sure all the lice were killed. I never let birds build a nest there after that.
